The Book is not as great as the review says...,
By "fortuna2_00" (Seattle, WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Streetwise Relationship Marketing On The Internet (Streetwise) (Paperback)
I bought the book because I saw a lot of great reviews about it on amazon.com. But after reading the book, it's really disappointing because the book is just very shallow about web marketing... It's also very repetitive and all it says is very general, it doesn't really cover much on strategic web marketing. A lot of the articles on the many web marketing sites or newsletters out there are much more helpful than that book. It doesn't tell much except for mentioning repeatedly how good content, customers registration and email newsletters are important for relationship marketing... It doesn't provide any resource at all for the readers to create good content, to build a customer email database or to launch an effective promotion or marketing campaign, i don't recommend this book at all.

A Must Read for Internet Marketers,
By Steve Lubahn (Winona, MN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Streetwise Relationship Marketing On The Internet (Streetwise) (Paperback)
Roger Parker displays a solid grasp of internet marketing fundamentals. His unique style presents not only the trends and best practices for relationship marketing on internet, but he also gives detailed implementation information. After reading his book, I have already taken steps to change the approach we are using in several sections of our corporate web site. I also found his discussion of how to engage the customer at each stage of the buying cycle very valuable. For those considering email marketing, this book is a must read. The last section of the book presents a large number of case studies for various types of businesses. Detailed examples of how to use your web site and email at each stage of the customer relationship are included. Best of all, this book [is] a real bargain!

Still good as gold,
This review is from: Streetwise Relationship Marketing On The Internet (Streetwise) (Paperback)
Most books published this long ago look incredibly dated by now. This one isn't. Everything in it still rings true, and it's a shame more websites don't heed this man's advice.

I keep referring to Parker's book over and over again. Even someone who has been marketing via the Net for several years will find this text a cogent, insightful and organized source of help. I can't imagine my Web-based efforts without its guidance.

Streetwise is a bounty of information,

This review is from: Streetwise Relationship Marketing On The Internet (Streetwise) (Paperback)
What a great resource. For a small biz like myself, it gives simple, concrete "growth" advice and direction. It should be in new print...not relegated to the used marketplace. With so much fodder out there, this stands way above the pack!

How can a book be any more valuable?,
By
This review is from: Streetwise Relationship Marketing On The Internet (Streetwise) (Paperback)
Roger C. Parker, a prolific author, is best known as being a genius of design with the written word. However, this book expertly covers all of the most important, and most frequently overlooked - or, even worse, ignored - aspects of making one's Web site really work.Every company, organization, and individual that has a Web site wants it to do something for them. Mr. Parker's counsel and detailed guidance will help anyone and everyone to understand what their Web site's value can be - and then get it done. The case studies are terrific illustrative examples. Much of what I'm incorporating in my site promoting my commercial photography business I've picked up from Roger's book and the case studies of a business similar to mine included in it. However, I also now know I'm only scratching the surface. With the continuing guidance of this book, I'm sure my Web site will grow greatly in importance as a real business asset for me. What more could I ask from any book?

This is an important book...,
This review is from: Streetwise Relationship Marketing On The Internet (Streetwise) (Paperback)
This book is immediately and genuinely useful. The author made the book a quick, fun read with features like self-evaluation questions, case studies and good design. It's targeted to entrepreneurs and mid-sized companies, but big companies that are wasting tons of money on "big splash, no cash" websites ought to follow the business-building tips presented in this book, too. My favorite: the chapter on writing scenarios to identify visitors information needs. My only complaint: I wish the section "Dealing with Outside Design Firms" was longer. Read this book before spending a dime on your Web site!

Strategy to the Rescue,
By Paul Swift (Rhinebeck, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Streetwise Relationship Marketing On The Internet (Streetwise) (Paperback)
"Strategy" may be a terribly overused word, but it certainly isn't a used-enough practice when it comes to creating and managing an effective Web site. The vast majority of Web sites out there are just that--"out there," with no clear purpose, no specific goal, no compelling attraction to turn visitors into customers. They lack a strategic plan. Solid, thoughtful help has arrived for businesspeople, especially those with small businesses, in the form of Roger C. Parker's "Streetwise Relationship Marketing on the Internet." Parker spells out in great detail, and with very practical supporting tips and worksheets, what he calls the Customer Development Cycle. It's a five-step strategy that maximizes one's Internet efforts while also putting them in the greater context of one's overall (offline) business goals and strategies. By studying his easy-to-read strategies one can turn a Web site that is currently not much more than a highway billboard (with cars speeding by it) into the most interactive business tool since the face-to-face meeting. Speaking of interactive, Parker also assigns e-mail its deserved central role in creating loyal customers. In tandem with a Web site's own information ("meaningful content" in Parker's words), the exchange of information is a vital component often lost on businesses on the Internet. I highly recommend Parker's book. Even though his many examples and 29 case studies do not include my own field--publishing--I found his unique perspective of combining relationship marketing and the Internet very helpful in developing and fine-tuning a profitable Web site.

This book rocks! Mr. Parker obviously knows what he's talkingabout with regards to the relationship marketing arena -- an arenathat is certain to become the only consistently successful means of promoting our businesses. It's jam-packed with info and worksheets... what everyone doing business online (or WANTS to do business online) needs to succeed. Highly, highly recommended!

Relationship Marketing--for big and small companies,
By Allan Haley (Georgetown, MA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Streetwise Relationship Marketing On The Internet (Streetwise) (Paperback)
I just finished Roger Parker's book "Relationship Marketing on the Internet" and highly recommend it. Too often, "business" books are written just for those employed by large organizations. Parker's book, while providing a wealth of information for marketing professionals, is also an invaluable tool for small business owners and even independent contractors. If you are in business and you have a web site, this book is a must read.
