I use anywhere from 8-12 pound braid on a spinning reel for surf fishing for halibut. One disadvantage of braided line is that it is not very abrasion resistant, which isn't a problem when fishing from a sandy beach. I've used 4 brands of non mono line including POWER PRO Spectra Line - Moss Green, SpiderWire Stealth 300-Yard Fishing Line, and Berkley Fireline (Crystal, 300 yds). I have found the Stren to be the best in terms of castability and line manageability. With 12 pound braid, I'm not afraid to throw expensive lures like the Lucky Craft Flash Minnow and feel confident that it is more than enough to handle the small to midsized halibuts we catch in the surf zone of Southern California.

I use this line on a bait casting reel. It is very thin and strong and it cast real well.
