Excellent Read on an Interesting Person,
By Michael Taylor "Michael Taylor" (Indian Trail NC) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Strength for the Journey (Paperback)
Regardless of what you think of Jerry Falwell, you should read the book to better understand the background and passion Falwell obviously has.Particularly interesting were the descriptions of: 1. His family background - an atheist grandfather and a father who accepted Christ on his deathbed. Personally, I admire Dr. Falwell and his willingness to take stands when other preachers are too concerned about their image and what others think of them. Although I have not agreed with everything he has said or done, no one can question his influence. Whether you support Falwell or hate his guts, you will benefit from reading about one of the most interesting figures in the ministry. Read and be challenged and encouraged!

Get to know Jerry Falwell,
This review is from: Strength for the Journey (Paperback)
My sister received this book when she asked for information on Liberty University. (I guess Jerry has a bunch of these in a warehouse) She chose to go to Bob Jones and I got the book. This book is a good read, It tells about Jerry growing up and how he came to Christ, as well as the history of Thomas Road Baptist and other ministries. It ends when Jerry Falwell took control of PTL from The Bakkers, though if you want the complete story on that you'll probably have to go to his newer autobiography. If you want to get to know the man behind the iage read this book

Essential Reading,

This review is from: Strength for the Journey: An Autobiography (Hardcover)
I bought and read this book when it was published. I sent it to relatives and recommended it to my friends and relations. I do not know how much of it is included in Falwell's later "Falwell: An Autobiography"
This book, like Billy Graham's "Just As I Am", provides the facts and personal thoughts that enable a proper understanding of a most important late twentieth century American religious leader. The bias and ignorance of our educational, media, and political elites have obscured our understanding of a very important part of America.

Here is a guy saying AIDS was Gods punishment for gay people, (and....um....hemopheliacs who got HIV during the early 1980s from tainted blood.)
Here is a guy who said 9-11 was the fault of gays, feminists, the pro-choice set. He never did mention the imbiclies who rammed the airliners into the buildings. He did it that afternoonm before the fires were out--I guess he didn't have any reletives in the big lustful Manhatten. A lot of us did. Here is a guy who then recants his 9-11 bile, then he says it again. I guess who he said what to depended on who he was talking to--how much fund raising he needed to get done and from what side of the fence. Here is a guy who was one of the worst hate mongers of our era. He used to have Lester Maddox and George Wallace on his TV show in the 1960s, calling the movment for intigration the "Civil Wrongs Movement." Here is a guy who says he ceased his racism in 1952, when he became born again, but the fire hose segragationist governor parade was on his little tube show in the mid 60s. He coddled the South African goverment in the 80s, too. Once a fat racist, always a fat racist. Here is, folks, one of the biggest hate mongers of our era. Gone now, he will no doubt soon be a laughabile footnote. Journey my as-. This guy never went anywhere. Now the son of a bi--h never will

Helps you understand Dr. Falwell Better,
By rodog63jr (bronx, N.Y.C. N.Y. USA) - See all my reviews

Although Dr. Falwell is a conservative, he is one who accepts criticism gracefully and admits when he's wrong. This book will give you more insight into Dr. Falwell and find out that much what the media says about him is not true.
