1.0 out of 5 stars Islam section
Figures the United Methodist Church would put an Islam devotional in the back of this book. I doubt John Wesley would appreciate the seeker sensitive liberal stance the United Methodists take today. I grew concerned when I saw "doctrine free" mentioned in the forward. The book you are looking for if you believe in the inerrancy of the Bible is Experiencing God...

5.0 out of 5 stars Strength for Service to God and Country, November 3, 2010
This review is from: Strength for Service to God and Country-Navy (Paperback)
When I started off my military career in the Coast Guard in 1980, my mother had purchased the booklet Strength for Service to God and Country...

Two men came to Christ in basic training as I "reluctantly" gave away my copy to one of them. They both approached me sometime later expressing great joy that I had shared my testimony while giving away my book.

Years later after I was married, my father in-law had owned a copy printed during WWII. I was a marine machinery technician now, and full time Army Reservist.

In 1999 the Lord called me in a vision as a Pastor...
In 2003-2004 I served in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
On 4 Feb. 2005, I was independently ordained, and had held the office of a Presbyterian Deacon.
On 6 Feb. 2005 I suffered a massive heart attack in water survival training; having Jesus pressing up against me shoulder to shoulder in shadow and out of body experience. It was my 20 years of military service on that day.

Today I am a licensed volunteer Chaplain, attempting to share Christ harder than ever with our troops.I have come full circle now, and more than ever, need your booklet Strength for service to God and Country, it is spiritual food for the soul and has always played an important role with our service members since the second world war.

Today it is harder than ever to find spiritual comfort within our military, as books like these are no longer allowed to be past out to our forces by our Government. Yet you can make a difference like I did, by giving these books to our troops individually.

May the Lord richly bless your efforts in behalf of the Gospel.

5.0 out of 5 stars instant messages from God, April 10, 2009
This review is from: Strength for Service to God and Country-Navy (Paperback)
It's not about the war, it's about the warrior.
Originally published in 1942 for our troops and others in service to God and country, it is as appropriate today as it was all those many years ago. I send these to our troops overseas, and they have been well received.
It is small enough to fit in a pocket, with a devotional for most every need to feed the souls of our warriors and clergy. One Marine wrote to me that it was like instant messaging with God.
It is available in navy or khaki, and also available from most Methodist bookstores in bulk. An excellent, excellent devotional.

5.0 out of 5 stars Strength for Service, November 2, 2010
This review is from: Strength for Service to God and Country-Navy (Paperback)
I have passed out many of these books to service members during predeployment and in Iraq they were donated at no cost to our unit and have helped improve morale and welfare for the Marines and Sailors who received them. I believe this book is relevant to all who choose to serve not just in the military but also firefighters, policemen, paramedics, emerency room personnel and many others who may be in need of a spritual uplifting.
I highly recomend it and also want to say to those that provide it at no cost to deploying servicemen and women around the world your efforts are appreciated Thank you!

5.0 out of 5 stars A devotional for those in service, December 5, 2010
This review is from: Strength for Service to God and Country-Navy (Paperback)
My brother received a copy of this book as he was boarding a ship bound for the invasion of Guam during WWII. He passed his copy on to me and I have since passed it on to one of his daughters. When it was reprinted a few years ago Our Methodist Men's group donated $200 to help ship some to our troops. We also acquired 40 so that we could give them out to people deploying from our area, and to local law officers. It is an excellent daily devotional book. I have also used it to present short messages to our prayer group and to the Methodist Men.

5.0 out of 5 stars Strength fro Service, November 15, 2010
This review is from: Strength for Service to God and Country-Navy (Paperback)
Strength for Service is a must have for all international travelers who believe. There are several countries that it is illegal to bring in your Bible even for personal use; Strength for Service allows me to continue a Daily Devotional program even in these restrictive countries.

As a military member, I gain insight and comfort from the bible verses but also from the different authors that share their thoughts.

5.0 out of 5 stars A blessing a day, November 3, 2010
This review is from: Strength for Service to God and Country-Navy (Paperback)
I never thought that I, a civilian, would be so blessed by a military devotional but I find I am blessed each day by the devotionals. One of my favorites is March 18th, "Remember."

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for those serving our country, April 23, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought this for my son in the Navy, who recently left on his first deployment. They don't have a lot of storage space for extra stuff so this was the perfect size. I wanted him to have something that he could pull out to read when he's having a bad day....something that will help comfort him. I believe that this is the perfect way for him to get in a devotion and it won't take a lot of time out of his day.

I am currently deployed to Afghanistan in the Marines. I tell you we don't need anecdotal "military devotionals". We need God's word. There are just as many moral dangers here as there are combat dangers. I'm not a legalistic believer. But I do require, at a bare minimum, my materials reflect John 14:6. It is ok to be offended by my position. 2 Tim 4:3-4
