Adding Fish: The transition from store to home is stressful for fish. When fish are stressed, they can lose their protective slime coat, which makes them susceptible to disease. STRESS COAT acclimate & protect fish.

Proven Efficacy

Testing proves that STRESS COAT reduces stress in fish
Stress is the leading cause of poor health and disease in aquarium and pond fish. Fish are stressed by netting, bagging, fighting and poor water quality. A fish's slime coat protects against disease and helps heal small wounds but is often disturbed by netting, fighting and accidental scrapes. Stressed fish are highly susceptible to disease problems because their immune system is suppressed. When fish are stressed their body produces a stress hormone called cortisol. Cortisol is a measurable indicator of fish stress. Corticol is released into the aquarium waters through gills and urine.

In this test goldfish were netted and moved to a series of individual aquariums. Next half of the fish were treated with STRESS COAT and half were untreated. The stress hormone cortisol was measured over time in treated and untreated aquariums. THe results showed a statistically significant 40% reduction in cortisol in the STRESS COAT-treated fish compared to the untreated fish.

STRESS COAT promotes healing of damaged tissue
In another test fish with similar wounds were separated into two groups. One group was treated with STRESS COAT. The second group was left untreated. Veterinarians later examined the wounded tissue and determined that the STRESS COAT treated fish had healed significantly faster than the untreated fish.

STRESS COAT with Aloe contains natural healing proteins and minerals, similar to a fish's natural slime coat. STRESS COAT replaces a fish's damaged slime coat with a protective healing layer or natural aloe extract. STRESS COAT acts as a bandage, speeding the healing of damaged tissue.

This conditoner is the best ever. The aqarium remains clean and the fish thrive. I made the mistake of buying STRESS COAT+. Notice the +, this is because it includes an ammonia remover that through my aquarium off balance. I have mostly freshwater tetras and catfish. I found them gasping for air and soon developed small amounts of red algae. Keep in mind, I have maintained the aqaurium the same way with the same products for years. The ammonia remover must contain a phosphate that also removes the CO2 and oxygen from the water. This causes many fish to die and the red algae growth.

yes, it's an added expense, but stress coat is very nice to have on hand for anytime you have a less than perfect situation in your tank; adding new fish, setting up a new tank, cleaning the old one or maybe the water quality got a tad bit too dirty before you changed it, or maybe your fish got sick/ stress coat just helps to ease the stress on the fish. be nice to your fish, use tress coat.

I use this stuff constantly managing my plethora of aquariums. This is one of the quickest, easiest, and most cost effective ways to make tap water safe. I also like that I can use it as a balm for any fish that may get injured.

I will continue to purchase this until my wife destroys my aquariums or kills me.

I bought this for my 50 gallon aquarium. I do 10% water changes weekly and this saves me money and helps my fish. I add 2.5ml of stress coat to my 5 gallon bucket. Add tap water. Stir then add it to my tank that has, mollies, mystery snail, cheery shrimp, ghost shrimp, octocinclus, and baby mollies.

Pros: 1) 3 year expiration date. Gives me time to use it up.
2) Nice blue color to make it easy to measure out.

Con: 1) Not easy to pour into a tiny measuring cup to measure out the small amount.

Overall, I think it's worth buying and using for your tank. Hope this helps.

I just used this product on March 16, 2013 and one of fish died. I thought the fish died because of age. I used the product again on 04-04-2013 and I had 5 fish die this time. I took the product in to Pets Mart and they said this product was contaminated and it was the reason why my fish were dying. I am not happy at all!
