As a stressed-out parent, I was immediately drawn to this book's title: Stress-Free Kids. It's heart-breaking to see my sons dealing with stress and to watch them mirror some of my own bad coping strategies. One of my favorite expressions is: When the student is ready, the teacher appears. In this book, I was so happy to discover such a treasure trove of stress-reducing techniques and tips for me to use and model for my children--and also so many techniques and tips to teach my sons. I recommend this book to all parents who wish to have less stressed, happier families and lives.

Lori Lite's book, Stress Free Kids, is an incredible asset to any parents resource library! This book is written in such a way that it helps parents to recognize areas that can be improved upon along with giving incredibly valuable tips and ideas that the parent can easily implement to create a less stressed environment. Some of the areas that the author addresses are stress related to travel, sports, home and during the holidays. I anticipate referencing this book over and over again when situations present themselves relating to reducing and preventing the stress in my children.

I was already familiar with Lori Lite's line of books for reducing stress in children. She's been a pioneer in translating adult meditative techniques into an easy-to-follow format for children. When her parenting guide was released, I was anxious to see how all the pieces would come together, from an adult's perspective. The book does not disappoint. As an art instructor, I was especially pleased with the emphasis placed on using creativity as a tool for reducing stress. From the techniques to the activities and the nutritional advice in-between, everything is easily understood with ideas presented in a way that results in little to no cost. Sometimes it's the simple things we forget about, but need to implement in our day-to-day journey through life: Ms. Lite is the knowledgeable tour guide, ready to answer your questions. Stress Free Kids is the perfect reference guide that benefits the entire family!

Stress Free Kids? Yes please! I dove right into this book and read it in two days! With three kids under 5, I’m one stressed out stay at home mom and as a result, my kids feel the stress and act out accordingly. I was anxious to read what Lori Lite had to say in her book Stress Free Kids.

With all the hustle and bustle in life and stressed out parents, it makes sense that the result is stressed out kids. It’s important to take stock and ask, why are they stressed? There are so many things in this book that are common sense and I found myself agreeing and saying “yes!” to so many things but they weren’t things I could have come up with on my own.

A couple of things really struck a cord with me. First of all, I loved that she stressed the importance of free play! There is so much pressure on moms for their kids to know their abc’s and spell their name and do it before Tommy down the block! Sometimes in all the worry about making our kids successful in school and life, we forget to loosen up and have fun and just play! And play has it’s own educational, physical, emotional and mental rewards.

I am a mom that does not play enough with my kids. Guilty as charged! Why? Usually because I have a thousand things to do and honestly, because sometimes I just don’t want to! But that’s because I don’t want to do the same play they do day after day. I get tired of playing dolls with four year old Paige and video games with five year old Reed. But playing with my kids doesn’t mean doing those same old things every time. This book gave me new ideas and inspired me to make more of an effort in that area.

Another thing that really impacted me was the simple breathing techniques I taught to my four year old. She tends to have very emotional responses and still has tantrums.

Until reading this book, I never really took in consideration just how much my stress really does have a strong impact on my two kids. Not only do I allow it to effect my life, but it effects them. My kids reactions are results of my actions.

I especially liked the part in the book about school (chapter eight). I seem to stress at the end of every summer as the new school year approaches. Especially since my now ten year old was bullied at the age of eight, in third grade. It is also a fight most mornings getting my kids up for school. This chapter of Lori Lite's book taught me to be more organized, don't overload my kids with extra curricular activities, and to try and keep on a routine schedule, along with a lot of other good guided information. My kids are happier and we are all less stressed.

I also have been giving my kids more fun time attention, rather than just listening attention, as a result from suggestions in this book. We play more together, do silly things together and just do more family fun things (go to the zoo, playground, movies, bake cookies/brownies or just outside playing).

I am grateful for all the tools in this book, which are suggested by Lori Lite. This is definitely a book I will go back to often. A great reference book to relieve stress. One that I would highly recommend in any parents library.
