I was able to take away some important bits for my own journey to total well-being. Mostly, the information is similar to that of other self-help books about stress and anxiety. The author, Paul Huljich, compiled some great resources for his readers in Part IV of the book; these include diet, exercise tips, glossary of terms, and other publications dealing with stress/anxiety/bi-polar disorder. Although Huljich's nine steps can easily be adjusted for the busy life, I found his struggles melodramatic at times. I cannot begin to fathom the difficulties and stressors that come with balancing a CEO position and a growing family, but I do not think the added benefit of millions hurt. After his nervous breakdown, Huljich was able to fly all across the world to find the best care possible. More importantly, he was able to buy himself time to do this. That is something many people cannot do; that being said, I appreciate his willingness to describe his solutions and previous situation with the masses. As previously noted, the nine steps are similar to those found in other self-help books; the real benefit, Huljich says, is having these steps harmoniously integrated into your life. He also created a website dedicated to the nine natural steps (stresspandemic.com), which I found very helpful and engaging. I had some other qualms with the book, but overall I thought it was a worth-while read and would recommend it to most people interested in alleviating stress from their lives.

We all have stress in our lives, it is just how we handle this stress is the key. I think in this day and age what with all the conveniences of our digital world, we find ourselves having to constantly do more and more in a day. Stress affects our work, school and family and if not under control and handled by each and every one of us, we could find ourselves in the same situation as the author of Stress Pandemic, Paul Huljich, He suffered a complete mental breakdown. While in treatment Paul started doing research on stress and while doing so he wanted to share what he has learned by writing this book.
In the book Paul has outlined the nine steps to mastering stress:
Step 1: Take Charge
Step 2: Kick Your Bad habits
Step 3: Learn to Say No
Step 4: Affirmations
Step 5:Exercise
Step 6: Nutrition
Step 7: Sleep
Step 8: the Power of Awareness
Step 9: Don't Give Up
In the back of the book there is a big section on resources, a glossary of terms used in the book, suggestions for breathing and stretching exercises, nutrition, sleep and some very interesting appendixes. I found this book to be very interesting, well thought out and researched and what I liked the most is that it was written by someone who actually had the mental illness caused by stress as opposed to something written by a self help guru who never experienced what Mr. Huljich has. I highly recommend it if you are wanting to change your life in a way that does not add to the stress you may already have.

According to author, Paul Huljick's doctor, Hugh Polk wrote that Huljick was certified delirious

Huljick came back from the brink and offers this book as his recipe for healing.

STRESS PANDEMIC is a beautiful, softcover book that is broken down into 2 main categories and 2 reference chapters.

The focus of the book is both psychological and dietary. This is where it is difficult to rightly value the book. On some level, these would be the key areas to examine to wellness but the quality of information offered is VERY basic.

Some of Huljick's prescriptions for stress elimination:
* Exercise and eat a lot of green vegetables, decaffeinated green tea.
* Develop a positive mental attitude
* Learn to say "no" to toxic people or obligations
* Stop feeling anxious, exhausted and impatient

The chapters are:
1. Take Charge!
2.Kick Your Bad Habits
3. Learn to Say "No!"
4. Affirmations
5. Exercise
6. Nutrition
7. Sleep
8. The Power of Awareness
9. Don't Give Up

This is a nice book and I appreciate Mr. Huljick's desire to share information from the source of his healing.

3 stars.

Paul Huljich's story, on the surface, may seem like one the average person may not be able to relate to. However, when one realizes what happened to the author of the Stress Pandemic, one can readily see how vulnerable we all are to the ravages of stress. If someone as successful and seemingly fulfilled can hit the wall of mental distress, then it's fully possible for each of us. His book asks us to examine our lives and assess our stressors. He talks about what these stressors are and then provides us with a simple (not unlike many other self-help books) step-by-step path to a de-stressed life.

I am a walker. I walk on the beach, bare-foot five days a week in the pre dawn. After reading Huljich's book, I wondered about his technique of pumping the arms to where the hands are at eye level during my walk. I tried it and I transformed a leisurely stroll into an aerobic work-out AND my posture improved; just from this one simple addition to my regime, my entire experience was transformed.

There is something in this book for everyone. Perhaps everything in the 9 steps are too much for you? I guarantee you will find something in his self-tested stress cure that will be beneficial. His resource section is comprehensive and helpful.

Remember, if you don't take control of your stress...it will take control of you.
