Not just any stress reduction book,
By "janel1753" (seattle) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stress Reduction for Busy People: Finding Peace in an Anxious World (Paperback)
I thought i read all I wanted to about stress. then I heard her on the radio and liked her perspective. this book takes a different look at stress reduction. a bigger view. practical and almost poetic, all at the same time. you can read it in an hour. I bought some for office gifts. I especially liked chapter 4 about goalsetting. Dawn doesnt bog you down, but she is also motivating. I liked her other books in the busy people series, but this hits the nail on the head for me.

This book is very interesting. It makes sense and is more than just another "you gotta reduce your stress load" book. It has a ton of good ideas and I found many of them immediately applicable at work and at home.

Cool Stuff Makes Sense,
By Bart G (San Diego) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stress Reduction for Busy People: Finding Peace in an Anxious World (Paperback)
This is a really cool book. It is easy but not stupid. Funny but not cliche. Not preachy. I bought it for some folks I manage and it helped them a lot. I heard Dawn speak and decided to buy a couple of her books. Both are great. I'm starting to meditate and thanks to Stress Reduction, I finally got what living stressed-out is doing to me. I want to keep my brain so I'm getting busy being less busy. Being smarter about it.

From avoiding worries to accepting a complicated world,

In Stress Reduction For Busy People, Dawn Groves showcases steps to alleviating stress and offers over-stressed folks a host of effective, "user friendly" coping mechanisms each of which require no extra daily effort to deploy. From avoiding worries to accepting a complicated world with the least stress, Stress Reduction For Busy People provides a strongly recommended guide to attitude enhancements which can in themselves reduce stress.

This was a short easy to read book.
It doesn't go into great detail about stress. It was educational with valuable information.

Concise. Informative. Helpful.,
This review is from: Stress Reduction for Busy People: Finding Peace in an Anxious World (Paperback)
The author clearly demonstrated a well written and resourceful book needs not be long and complicated. As a 40+ busy male who works under heavy pressure over 60 hours a week, I find it very useful. Hope that it can help you much as well. Highly recommended!
p.s. Below please find some of my favorite passages for your reference. Young people enjoy deep sleep - the most restful kind - for up to 100 minutes each night. If they shorten their sleeping time, they can make up for the loss of deep sleep in subsequent evenings. Middle aged people only average 20 minutes of deep sleep per night. That's why when middle aged people become sleep deprived, they may not be able to compensate for it easily. pg 25 Recondition yourself to associate your bed only with sleep. That means no reading in bed. pg 26 Taking long strides with arms swinging and eyes straight ahead made people feel happier than taking short, shuffling steps with eyes downcast. pg 51 The author's simple system to handle stress consists of three steps: 1. Move your body 2. narrow your focus and 3. take action. pg 61 |
