Go for a fundamental change, not a band-aid.

A lot of stress books I've read helped me deal with stress just so I could face the stress again. It was nice to be able to relax a little, but then I would go back to my same stressed-out life.

This author is all about getting rid of the stress, not just dealing with it.

It was like having a conversation with someone - she shared personal details about her life and is still learning - different from the phd "my life is perfect" types that usually write self-help books. She gives a lot of different real-world suggestions.

And I like the holistic approach. Most people treat stress as a mental issue completely disconnected from the rest of the body. Traditionally, when you think about stress impacting health, you only think ulcers or heart attacks. Now I'm a little worried about what I've been doing to my body just dealing with stress all these years.

Stress is one of those topics you hear a lot of about and we all feel burdened by by we rarely take the time to read about. This book was actually referred by a friend. It's a good read on the topic that goes back on fourth from personal story-telling to useful and informative advice. It's an easy read with some practical tips.

Oh boy, if you are anything like me you'll feel there just isn't enough hours in a day. Is time moving quicker or am I slowing? Is it a combination of the two, perhaps? No matter the cause - the result for me, and many others is stress!

And this book has fallen into my lap at the right time.

I love the way Janet Matthews intersperses her practical tips and reminders with personal anecdotes. She writes very well in a calm, reassuring style and I found myself nodding in agreement as I read this timely reminder; yes, I do know some NLP techniques that will help my mindset; yes, I was going to yoga classes - when did I drop them off, and why?; thank heavens Im still fitting in choir and Pilates each week.

I enjoyed this book and suggest you take time out of your busy day, make a cuppa, sit in your comfy chair and read it. It is a treat; a gift from the author to the reader and one well worth taking time out to enjoy.

Who knows, it may just be the reminder that saves us from our stress-filled selves?

This book is mainly a narrative of the author's struggle with stress, as well as an overview of how stress develops and what it does to health. While there is nothing wrong with that, I feel I was a little misled into thinking that the book was a useful manual for how to deal with stress. There is only 1 chapter focused how to actually deal with stress, and it is only a handful of pages long. While that chapter certainly does list most of the major categories of ways to deal with stress, there are few details, which makes it fairly unhelpful for putting together an actual plan to deal with the actual stress of an actual person. So I recommend this book if you're interested in the story, but not if you're looking for a practical guide.

Even those who don't think they're suffering from stress would benefit from reading "Is Stress your Silent Killer?", which has been written from the heart, and shows great clarity and wisdom. The author shares her personal story, interwoven with very helpful suggestions that may not only alleviate stress, but possibly prevent it from happening in the first place. This is a very easy book to read. It's well written, and is highly recommended.

Who where can say they haven't experienced stress before? Well I know that stress has been part of my life for way too long. After a long time I finally decided to read up on this silent killer and get this area of my life handled. I purchased several books on the topic of stress and I found this particular book to be in the top 5. It had a lot of concrete tips on how to deal with stress and I finally feel that I am ready to live a stress free life. I gave it 4 stars because I wish it was a little longer, simply because it is well written and a nice read.
