5.0 out of 5 stars They sound familiar..., March 27, 2000

This review is from: Stretch Princess (Audio CD)
If you are young and don't think you know this group, think again, there is a good chance you've heard them. This album could have been heard in several different places, both on T.V. and movies. "She's All That", "Teaching Mrs. Tingle", and "Passport to Paris" (one of my younger sis' favorites) all featured songs from this album. Plus they have been a regular on the WB, being heard on both "Buffy" and "Felicity". Recently I also noticed them from an episode of "The West Wing", (an odd match). Their music at times reminds me of Veruca Salt or Liz Phair, especially with the opening song on the album, "Oooh!". "Sugar", probably their most prominent song, also follows that formula. Both have the same kind of female led, high octane rock quality. In my estimation though, that is not what they do the best. Their ballads are what they excel at. To me "Shoes" and "Nice Thing" stand out, but the rest are also impressive. The guitars set a longing tone, with the vocals piercing through. It is a stark contrast in styles on the same disc. I can't wait for what Stretch Princess does next. When it arrives I have a feeling it'll be a big hit. This album certainly lays a framework for success.

Stretch Princess is by far one of the best bands I've heard in a long time. This is crazy coming from me, b/c I don't even usually like women as the lead singer in bands. But, they blew me away when I saw them open for Eve6, and Marvelous 3 (who I really don't think are all that marvelous, btw)... they deserve much more airplay. "Sorry", and "Sugar" have both been in movies this past year, and I look forward to seeing them progress on the radio as well. BUY THIS ALBUM! And, tell your radio station to play anything from it.. b/c there's really not a bad song on here.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Female rock, December 19, 1999
This review is from: Stretch Princess (Audio CD)
I love to explore, and that is the main reason why I bought "Stretch princess" without reading about it in some newspaper or hearing a song on the radio. I just "bumped" into their CD while surfing, and I am not sorry. Not at all. When the package arrived, I realized that the pamphlet inside the CD did not contain the lyrics, nor did it contain information about the band. "Hum" I said to myself, "They must be a young straggling band, so they did not focus on the cover and instead, they focused on the music". After one listening, myself agreed completely. It is one of the best female Rock Cd's of the year. Great beat, good guitar ensemble. The fact that the band is somewhat ambiguous only increases my feeling that you do not need to listen to a star pampered with heaps of public relations in order to enjoy good music.
