5.0 out of 5 stars They sound familiar..., March 27, 2000
By
This review is from: Stretch Princess (Audio CD)
If you are young and don't think you know this group, think again, there is a good chance you've heard them. This album could have been heard in several different places, both on T.V. and movies. "She's All That", "Teaching Mrs. Tingle", and "Passport to Paris" (one of my younger sis' favorites) all featured songs from this album. Plus they have been a regular on the WB, being heard on both "Buffy" and "Felicity". Recently I also noticed them from an episode of "The West Wing", (an odd match). Their music at times reminds me of Veruca Salt or Liz Phair, especially with the opening song on the album, "Oooh!". "Sugar", probably their most prominent song, also follows that formula. Both have the same kind of female led, high octane rock quality. In my estimation though, that is not what they do the best. Their ballads are what they excel at. To me "Shoes" and "Nice Thing" stand out, but the rest are also impressive. The guitars set a longing tone, with the vocals piercing through. It is a stark contrast in styles on the same disc. I can't wait for what Stretch Princess does next. When it arrives I have a feeling it'll be a big hit. This album certainly lays a framework for success.

Stretch Princess is by far one of the best bands I've heard in a long time. This is crazy coming from me, b/c I don't even usually like women as the lead singer in bands. But, they blew me away when I saw them open for Eve6, and Marvelous 3 (who I really don't think are all that marvelous, btw)... they deserve much more airplay. "Sorry", and "Sugar" have both been in movies this past year, and I look forward to seeing them progress on the radio as well. BUY THIS ALBUM! And, tell your radio station to play anything from it.. b/c there's really not a bad song on here.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Female rock, December 19, 1999
This review is from: Stretch Princess (Audio CD)
I love to explore, and that is the main reason why I bought "Stretch princess" without reading about it in some newspaper or hearing a song on the radio. I just "bumped" into their CD while surfing, and I am not sorry. Not at all. When the package arrived, I realized that the pamphlet inside the CD did not contain the lyrics, nor did it contain information about the band. "Hum" I said to myself, "They must be a young straggling band, so they did not focus on the cover and instead, they focused on the music". After one listening, myself agreed completely. It is one of the best female Rock Cd's of the year. Great beat, good guitar ensemble. The fact that the band is somewhat ambiguous only increases my feeling that you do not need to listen to a star pampered with heaps of public relations in order to enjoy good music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Strech Princess Is, Strechin' All The Way!, July 18, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Stretch Princess (Audio CD)
I first heard one of their songs in the movie"Passport To Paris"(sugar)which i loved! So I set my mind on having to buy the cd! I'm glad I did. Strech Princess has a wonderful mix of music. My favorite,"Sugar", is an upbeat get on the floor and start to dance song, while "Shoes" is a kind of slow song for hanging around in your room. I would suggest this cd for anyone who enjoys music like "Splender", and music that is a little more up beat than "Jewel"!

5.0 out of 5 stars Music to drive to., May 30, 2000

I first heard of this band on my birthday in 1999 when I went to the 9:30 Club to see Eve6 and Marvellous 3. Stretch Princess opened and I was floored. What a wonderful energy they bring to their music. Softer than the Cranberries, not quite as poetic as Jewel, just a nice band to kick back with and enjoy the ride. One of the few bands I can say sounds as good live as on the CD. If you are a fan of the voice of the singer from Sixpence None the Richer, then you are sure to enjoy this band, though while as upbeat, this one has nothing to do with the religious connontations and is just good music to kick back with. Not what I would consider a Liltih Fair band, more of just another pop, but better than what I am hearing get put on the radio these days.

There is a british band called 'The Sundays'.. I don't know if they exist any longer.. which is a shame... Now 'The Sundays' had a huge hit here in blighty some time ago with a stunning song called 'Summertime'.. It was the best song they had put their names to, and believe me they put their names to some stunning songs.. Stretch princess have embodied the summery pop nous of that band and added an edgy rock element (a bit like Edna Swap.. who have also split!). So all I want to say is.. this is a GREAT and BEAUTIFUL record.. and I have just ordered their follow up!

4.0 out of 5 stars Stretch Princess is great!!, July 28, 2002

Okay, for all of you who are not sure whether or not to get this CD, just do it!! It's sooo well worth it. Sugar is a great, upbeat, musically fun song! Sorry is also really good! I just saw them perform live last night, and they sound amazing! They sound exactly like they do on the cd. And they're super nice people too! I met them, and got autographs. So I do recommend this CD to anyone who likes rock/pop, or who just wants to discover a great new band. And check out their new CD "Fun Wih Humans" on August 6th. Also sure to be a wonderful album! Jo, Dave, James, you guys rock!

4.0 out of 5 stars Simply Wonderful, October 4, 2001

Listen to "Twisted".

Jo's voice really reminds me of Harriet Wheeler's from the Sundays. Stretch is working on a second album now, and if it's anything like their debut, they have a great career ahead and much more recognition to be earned. They are way more than just a soundtrack band.
