Book Description

March 1, 2008
Stretched but not Broken, chronicles the story of Mia Hall. Raped at five years old and emotionally abandoned by a loving but depressed mother, Mia grows into a compliant woman enabling the bipolar and controlling abuses of her older sister, Karen. Mia's stepfather, Bruce, also abusive and psychotic, still, in his warped way, loves Mia and his family. Through a life of kept secrets, silence in the face of abusive oppression, and a broken romance, Mia is driven to attempted suicide. But Mia has a friend, Julie, who has been telling Mia about the love of God and how much he has in store for Mia's life and future. Mia must then make a decision to let go of her past, and stretch toward a bright and loving future with a Savior who proves to be the only answer to Mia's shredded life of fear, anguish and hopelessness. Tawana attended George Washington University where she received certification in Emergency Medical Technology. She also attended Family Bible Institute, and received an Associate Degree in Biblical studies and will soon complete her Bachelors in Theology at The Trinity Bible College. Currently, Tawana is a member of the National Association of Realtors, a board member of WIN ONE, Inc., and Christian Women of Faith Ministries. Both groups focus on aiding inner city women. She is also a member of Angelic Motions of Praise, a dance group that has performed many churches and organizations throughout Washington D.C., and surrounding states. Tawana resides Maryland with her husband and five children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't stop reading!, March 25, 2008
This review is from: Stretched But Not Broken (Paperback)
This was a page turner by far! The story was well written and vividly lush in details. It kept me interested and made me believe the vulnerability of the people in the book.

The character Mia's struggle to find her inner being was very endearing. I have recommend this book to all of my family and friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dysfunctional, October 7, 2008
This review is from: Stretched But Not Broken (Paperback)
"Stretched but not Broken" chronicles the story of Mia Hall and her dysfunctional family. Mia, raped at the tender age of five, grew up with a mother that was emotionally unavailable because she suffered from depression. A step-father that was emotionally as well as physically abusive to her and her siblings. She also had and older sister, Karen, that is bi-polar and abuses her children. Her younger sister, Sasha, is just so fed up with all the chaos within the family and she is determined to get out by joining the ROTC and going into the army. When Mia's sister, Karen, takes things to far involving her children, everyone's life is flipped upside down.

This was a fast paced and refreshing read. The writing just flowed so naturally. I am sure you can see someone you know in one of these characters, the story was so raw and real, makes me wonder if this wast based on a true story. If so, I really applaud the author for overcoming such huge obstacles. In my opinion, this is one of those books that everyone should read.
