Dr. Bookspan explains and illustrates in an easy understandable way, proper effective stretches that will eliminate unnecessary joint trauma, potential injuries, and the pain that results from improper stretching. This book is fun and easy to read, while providing vital information about the importance of proper stretching, and the positive effects flexibility can have on joint health and quality of life.
Dr. Bookspans passion for proper body mechanics has helped countless individuals. Once introduced to Dr. Bookspans methods by following her simple instructions and common sense approach, the results are almost instantpain reduction and pain free movement. Dr. Bookspan has changed my life for the better. I not only practice her techniques for stretching (and strengthening) in my personal training routine, but use them routinely as a training and rehabilitation tool in my professional role as an athletic trainer. I am honored to have been given the privilege, not only to write the foreword for this book, but also to have been afforded the opportunity to know and learn from Dr. Bookspan. I can attribute my pain free movement and increased physical performance to her philosophy on proper stretch, posture, and movement technique. In todays "information age" it is difficult to know what to believe and what truly works. If you are as skeptical as I, let me reassure you that the truth is in this book, "Stretching Smarter Stretching Healthier."

Very enlightening!,

This book by Jolie Bookspan, as well as other books of hers that I have, espouse a very different way of looking at how our bodies are meant to move and need to be exercised. I initially found information about her ideas online and sought out sources for her books. She has a very impressive background from which she has gained all of this information. She instructs athletes, military people, and martial arts performers as well. This stretching book, like all of her other books, has a very practical and health-building approach. She stresses the need to stretch as part of our everyday life with drawings that are easy to understand. She points out how some accepted methods or positions used in stretching do more harm than good and then offers the better way to do it. Being someone who has always been a bit tight and has had pain due to stress injury due to it, this book has been an invaluable resource. I highly recommend it and all books by Jolie Bookspan.

Jolie Bookspan gives the advise you wish your Doctor or PT had given you. I have seen every specialist in Seattle, and wish that for Christmas, someone would buy them each this book---for their patient's sake.

This is the smartest book on stretching I ever bought. It's different from what most therapists will instruct you. It's made a huge difference in recovery from chronic muscle pain from either being tight or overstretched.
