Very enlightening!,
This review is from: Stretching Smarter Stretching Healthier (Paperback)
This book by Jolie Bookspan, as well as other books of hers that I have, espouse a very different way of looking at how our bodies are meant to move and need to be exercised. I initially found information about her ideas online and sought out sources for her books. She has a very impressive background from which she has gained all of this information. She instructs athletes, military people, and martial arts performers as well. This stretching book, like all of her other books, has a very practical and health-building approach. She stresses the need to stretch as part of our everyday life with drawings that are easy to understand. She points out how some accepted methods or positions used in stretching do more harm than good and then offers the better way to do it. Being someone who has always been a bit tight and has had pain due to stress injury due to it, this book has been an invaluable resource. I highly recommend it and all books by Jolie Bookspan.

Jolie Bookspan gives the advise you wish your Doctor or PT had given you. I have seen every specialist in Seattle, and wish that for Christmas, someone would buy them each this book---for their patient's sake.

Smartest Book on stretching,
By Clutter-bug "Clutter-bug" (Northeast US) - See all my reviews

This is the smartest book on stretching I ever bought. It's different from what most therapists will instruct you. It's made a huge difference in recovery from chronic muscle pain from either being tight or overstretched.

Stretches and concepts that work.,
By Audrey T ""stretch mistier"" (Philadelphia, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stretching Smarter Stretching Healthier (Paperback)
Finally a common sense approach to streching. This book, simply put, is the way nature intended use to move and stretch. The explinations and illustration are easy to read and apply. In addition to increasing flexability, the stretches and moves provided also aide with balance. I would strongly reccommend this book. It will benefit everyone regardless of their fitness level or age. I would also reccommend this book to professionals in the therapy and fitness fields as these strecthes would greatly benefit your clients/patiens/athletes.

As someone else said in another review, most of the material you find in Bookspans books is on the website. Its nice to have it altogether in one location, only in this case its in three locations in her three books. It's very simply stated, the illustrations are so simple they are almost confusing at times but you will get by on them. Easy reading, easy simply practices that are meant to be used daily for a lifetime. No quick fixes here but easy fixes that you will have to master and retain to maintain the desired flexibility. I speak only in terms of laymen use, I cannot advice any professional athlete as to the usefulness of these publications. For a midlife person who wants to make sure the excercises they are doing are really helping and not hurting, make the investment or checkout the website.

I'm a heavy computer user and suffer the tight muscles that result from not the best posture and hours of mouse action. I don't usually buy fitness books as they are usually too complicated and I don't end up following through with their recommendations. However, this book is different. It's the absolute BEST book I've come across that gives simple stretches and tips that I will actually use and that have already made a HUGE difference in my shoulders, neck and back. I came across it by accident as it's not available in my local library or online in Canada. It's worth every penny!

Great daily stretches,

I use these stretches daily whether I exercise or not. They are gentle, effective and relaxing. I only wish there were more stretches especially for the shoulders and back. The hip stretches are great.

It is the best book out there on stretching. You will not need to know more re: stretching and you will know why you should forget what you do know.
Seriously, money well spent just for the photo of Jolie on back cover.

Not satisfied,
By Pauli Jr (Michigan) - See all my reviews

I was impressed with some parts of this and another book by Bookspan available on the internet. I thought that the rest of the book must be at least as good, well... I was deeply disappointed. There is some good advice, but that's about all. Whatever was freely available was the best part...
