A superb and handy resource,

This review is from: Stretchy Library Lessons: Library Skills : Grades K-5 (Paperback)
Part of the "Stretchy Library Lessons" series developed by educator and library media specialist Pat Miller, Library Skills is a "user friendly" collection of ready-made lessons for school and community librarians who need to teach young ones how to take advantage of library's resources, yet who have little time to prepare. Ready-made worksheets suitable for photocopying, and 10 lesson plans that cover basic library skills, the parts of a book, the Dewey Decimal System, genres and much, much more make Library Skills a superb and handy resource which is ideal for homeschooling parents as well. Also highly recommended are two companion workbooks by Pat Miller in her "Stretchy Library Lessons" series: Reading Activities (157950082X,...) and Research Skills (1579500846,...).

Good Jumping Off Point,

This book has a lot of lessons that are good jumping off points, or good to incorporate into other units of study. It is probably better suited for public library childrens' services or SLMS that don't get to collaborate as much as they'd like. I bought it when I was first starting out as a School Library Media Specialist, because I was worried about starting Year One with (what I thought was)a blank slate! Better yet, grab some copies of Mailbox to give you some good ideas-- or remind you of things that you wanted to work on!

I do not like this series of books. There are very few lessons included and they are not very good. These lessons are not engaging and therefore students find them boring. This is not something any librarian wants! We need something to hold the students' attention and this is not it!
