A decade before his postmodern romp Moulin Rouge brought the film musical high-kicking and (occasionally) screaming into the 21st century, director Baz Luhrmann debuted his oft-dizzying transgenre musical tack in this, his film debut. Set against the obsessive world of Australian dance competitions, the first of what's become known as Luhrmann's "Red Curtain Trilogy" (which also includes Romeo + Juliet and Moulin Rouge) stands hoary Hollywood clichés on their head. If you enjoyed the movie you'll enjoy this soundtrack. Each track vividly reminds you of the movie scene in which it was played. And even if you didn't like the movie, there are some fun tunes on here. There are several classics such as 'Love Is In the Air' by John Paul Young, 'Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps' by Doris Day, 'Os Quindins De Ya Ya' by Stanley Black as well as a sweet cover of 'Time After Time'. It's all good for listening to, relaxing to, but most of, for dancing to!

Always loved this film and finally decided that I should have the iconic soundtrack songs and dancing music too. Unfortunately the particular edition being sold now is sadly inferior. I almost wouldn't mind the jewel case insert that looks like it comes from a template in Microsoft Word. However what's worse are how the track titles and numbers printed on the case are quite simply wrong. Something must have become shuffled at some point so it's all the same songs, just in a different order. Great music, poor release. I would recommend what I've already owned for awhile Something For Everybody: Baz Luhrmann which has nice highlights from Strictly Ballroom.
