4.0 out of 5 stars Romantic Comedy
A romantic comedy that doesn't give enough credit to the co-stars Tommy Davidson (In Living Color), Anne Marie Johnson, & Samuel L. Jackson. Joseph C. Phillips and Halle Berry deliver the theme of the story well - Phillips playing the role of a "square" investment banker who is smitten by a beautiful nightclub entrepreneur(Berry). 2.0 out of 5 stars Feel-Good Formula Movie
It's clear that this movie isn't going to win any awards, but if you want a simple formula movie, Strictly Business is good way to spend an hour and a half. I read Leonard Maltin's review and its strikes me as funny that he would even mention anything having to do with money or how easy it is to make. Did anyone question the reality of Richard Gere marrying a street...

4.0 out of 5 stars Romantic Comedy, September 3, 2007
This review is from: Strictly Business (DVD)
A romantic comedy that doesn't give enough credit to the co-stars Tommy Davidson (In Living Color), Anne Marie Johnson, & Samuel L. Jackson. Joseph C. Phillips and Halle Berry deliver the theme of the story well - Phillips playing the role of a "square" investment banker who is smitten by a beautiful nightclub entrepreneur(Berry). Phillips feels Berry is out of his league and feels he's not hip enough to attract her, so he seeks the advice of his friend (Davidson) who works in the mailroom, on how to dress-to-impress, and to ultimately be introduced to her. Phillips has another problem though - he already has a girlfriend (Johnson) who is a domineering, vain, controlling, self serving, arrogant yuppie who plans to marry him for appearances and for all the other wrong reasons. Samuel L. Jackson delivers humor in a short-lived way as the hard-nose mailroom superintendant. To add more substance to the romantic comedy, the story shows how you can loose yourself, your identity, and ultimately your friends & your woman by trying to live a double life, climbing the corporate ladder, all the while safeguarding against corporate backstabbing and sabotage. A fun, funny and entertaining movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Ethnic Comedy, November 16, 2004
Tommy Davidson adds great life to an otherwise melo list of charaters in this film. He is funny, peppy, and hip in his role as street smart punk and "thug". The story line is not the biggest focus as are the sketches of ethnic personal relationships, brown nosers in the office and "uncle Toms" in the workplace. Ofcourse Halle Berry is the foxes fox in her role as a cutie. There are some very funny scenes and the message of dealing in a business world where minorities seem to get the short end is consistent throughout the film.

However, it does have the strong Cinderella line to it where the good guy seems to beat the odds and real world obstacles and make it to the top. That's the fantasy part. But it's a good dream. Enjoy the ride.

4.0 out of 5 stars Halle Berry Was The Bomb....., January 10, 2002

I watched this movie and was totally into it from the start! I love the characters so much and how well they interact together... I even had to stare when Halle Berry was dancing at the club... and I was in total awe and had to say Go... Natalie...Go Natalie...which is the name of her character in this movie... My favorite part had to been when Waymon has to get her back...and his homeboy says.."Hope he brought his knee pads!" So how romantic was that...I love this cause Natalie has a dream to be a club owner....and that is something that I have been wanting to do for a long time now :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes going to work look fun, April 22, 2010

Two people from totally different worlds hook up. Just makes you realize that it isn't a person's career as much as his/her outlook on life and positivity that makes a relationship flourish. Tommy Davidson is hilarious. Buy it! This one is definitely worthy of being on the shelf with your collection. I'm not a real big fan of Halle Berry, but I do love her innocence and honest-hearted endeavors whenever she portrays her characters. I saw this one way back in 1991 when it first came to the theatres (back then I don't think there was a such thing as a DVD) But I'm glad I waited until they started making DVDs to buy it. I'd never owned the VHS version.

5.0 out of 5 stars Strictly Business, December 31, 2009

A good lighthearted movie about business situations, actions and eventual outcome. The resultant side businesses and cooperative efforts prevail to a successful end. Tommy Davidson and Joseph C. Phillips are very funny in this movie.

2.0 out of 5 stars Feel-Good Formula Movie, August 12, 2000

It's clear that this movie isn't going to win any awards, but if you want a simple formula movie, Strictly Business is good way to spend an hour and a half. I read Leonard Maltin's review and its strikes me as funny that he would even mention anything having to do with money or how easy it is to make. Did anyone question the reality of Richard Gere marrying a street prostitute in Pretty Woman? Or how easy it was for Forrest Gump to turn his simple boating enterprise into an empire with holdings in Apple? Let's be careful about how and why we evalute the "realism" in movies. Strictly Business is a mildly entertaining, 2-star movie, that is as realistic and complex as a 2-star movie can be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Movie from 1991 - NOT 2007, January 28, 2012
This review is from: Strictly Business (DVD)
The details for this movie say the DVD release date is 2007. Be aware that the movie is from 1991. So if you're thinking that the actors look young here (especially Halle Berry) that is why. Great movie, lots of fun.

Very good movie. Funny and entertaining without a lot of cursing and violence. Can be a little corny but still a classic.
Good clean romatic comedy.
