Flat Picking At Its Best,
By A Customer
This review is from: Strictly Instrumental (Audio CD)
This is an example of guitar flat picking at its best. With Flatt, Scruggs, and the addition of Doc Watson's genius, there is no way this CD could be anything but fantastic - and it delivers as you might expect...If I had to pick one bluegrass CD on the merit of instrument playing alone - this would unquestionably be it. The only downside is there is less than 30 minutes of music - I wish the trio had cut twice as many selections...

A must for bluegrass lovers.,

A must for lovers of bluegrass guitar and banjo pickin' by three of America's greatest musicians. Some classic stuff and, thankfully, some pieces I'd never heard. Very high quality recording. Unfortunately, there's only 11 cuts and I could listen for hours.

I had this album on LP years ago - one of the best bluegrass albums ever. It is not "retouched" and processed like most albums. Was happy to find it on a CD.

The guitar work here is excellent, just as you'd expect it to be. The harmonica work nearly overwhelms it, though, and adds a little too much cornpone for me. If you like bluegrass harmonica that's great - this is certainly the cd for you, as you won't find better flatpicking accompaniment with a harmonica player to my knowledge. If you prefer an emphasis on flatpicking, though, there are likely many better options.
