Editorial Reviews

2007 release of the mixed double CD set from one of House music's all time great DJ's. As Armand Van Helden said ‘Todd Terry invented the game we’re just playing it’. Terry hooked up with the original New York house label, Strictly Rhythm, to deliver this monumental set in this new compilation series. Combining the freshest and most exclusive releases along with legendary house classics, Todd ‘The God’ Terry has delivers the goods, showing that the legendary New York house sound is as strong as ever, featuring many forthcoming and upfront releases from Strictly Rhythm Artists like Quentin Harris’ ‘My Joy’ and ‘Poor People’, Marlon D’s ‘Jesus Creates Sound’ and ‘Dance to the Beat’, Grand High Priests ‘Mixdown’ and ‘My guitar’ and Mood II Swing’s anthem ‘Its Gonna Work Out’ Terry included his own exclusive productions with ‘Get Down’ featuring Tara Mc Donald and ‘Play On’ , which makes it's compilation debut in this set. Terry also brings us the anthems which were the building blocks of the house scene, like Morels Groove 4 ‘Lets Groove’, River Ocean ‘Love and Happiness’, Sole Fusion ‘Basstone’ and Barbara Tucker ‘Stay Together’.

3.0 out of 5 stars Unfortunate Bad Mixes, November 27, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Strictly (Audio CD)
After enjoying the First 'New' Strictly Rhythm Mixes by Masters At Work so much I was greatly anticipating these mixes coming from Todd Terry, However, I am ultimately very disappointed with both of the mixes. It is a real shame that Strictly Rhythms fantastic catalogue of great House music, with so many tracks that sound so good tegether, can be killed by bad mixing, but in this case they are.

Both mixes feel very uneven and sound as if Todd Terry were just noodling around the studio trying out different tracks rather than presenting a finished set. There are good classic songs, but they are few and far between the clutter of so many (barely there) dub version and otherwise obscure remixes.

Mix two feature 3 different versions of the excellent Barbara Tucker vocal Classic 'Stay Together'. Early in the mix two versions appear, one dub version, and a severely remixed version, both back to back. Each are meager samplings of the original that ultimately feel more transitional rather than actually danceable. The original club version does finally appear as the final track at the very end, but at that point, after enduring such a difficult uneven mix, it comes off as somewhat of an afterthought.

If you are interested in any of these tracks (or versions of tracks) then I recommend getting the unmixed compilations version of this CD, but if you are looking for a solid dance mix of Strictly Rhythm classics this, unfortunately, is not it.

5.0 out of 5 stars STRICTLY SICK!!!, January 10, 2008
This review is from: Strictly (Audio CD)
AS SOON AS I FOUND OUT TODD TERRY PUT OUT A MIX UNDER THE STRICTLY RYTHM LABEL I HAD TO RUN OUT AND BUY IT AND LET ME JUST SAY TODD DOES NOT DISSAPOINT. ALWAYS KEEPING THE RYTHM AND KEEPING YOUR BODY MOVINNG THROUGH OUT THE ENTIRE MIX, THIS MIX SOLIDFIES STRICTLY RYTHM IS HERE TO STAY FOR GOOD! TODD MOVES IN AND OUT USING CLASSIC VOCALS, REMIXES, TRIBAL BEATS, ALL THE WHILE KEEPING YOUR HANDS IN THE AIR. THIS ONE OF THE BEST MIXES I'VE HEARD IN A WHILE AND ITS REFRESHING TO HEAR TRACKS SO CLASSIC SOUND SO FRESH WITH TODD'S MIXING SKILLS. IN MY OPINION THIS IS SURE MUST FOR ANY HOUSE HEAD!
