5.0 out of 5 stars IN FULL EFFECT, May 15, 2001

This review is from: Strictly Turntablized [Vinyl] (Vinyl)
This is easily Krush's best album. It's his second full length release and his first on the Mo'wax label. It's also pure Krush with no rappers, female singers or trumpet players to distract you. All that's left is big, beautiful, strangely syncopated beats and deep, hazy atmospheres. When I first got this album, I was a bit disappointed, it just sounded like a dj tools 'breaks and beats' album, but with repeated listening I realised that there was a whole world of feeling within each groove.Krush covers quite a lot of ground without ever straying off target, from the pushy beat and stereo scratch war of 'Lunation' to the laid out feel of 'Dig This Vibe'.

What makes this such a rare and unusual release is that there isn't a single mistake on it. Not one moment,or one track, that you wish wasn't on there (and that's something that even DJ Shadow couldn't manage on 'Entroducing').Some of it even turned up on the soundtrack to the movie 'Blade'.The cover art by Futura 2000 is great -if you can find it, buy it on vinyl for full effect. The closest sounding Krush cd is probably 'Kakusei', which is pretty good in it's own right, but doesn't really measure up to the one-off lightning strike that this record is. Essential

5.0 out of 5 stars This IS trip hop, October 4, 2007

Trippier than Massive Attack, Tricky, Portishead, Red Snapper and the rest - this disc of weird trippy beats and Japanese-flavoured samples is a classic example of the skillz of a master turntablist and deserves re-issue. This is DJ Krush at the top of his game.
