Bottom Line: The Strider ST-4 is a good bike, but for $109 you can get a great balance bike by going with another brand such as the Glide Bikes EZee Glider Kid's Balance Bike (12-Inch), KinderBike Laufrad Balance Bike or Performance Bike's balance bike. The Strider is also one of the smallest balance bikes on the market, so if you are shopping for a child over the age of 2.5, there are tons of other bikes out there that are better suited for older riders (google Two Wheeling Tots to see a comparison chart).

My oldest son's first balance bike was a Strider ST-2. He LOVED it and was quickly cruising around our town home complex. Around the age of 2.5 however, we got our hands on a balance bike with air tires and soon, my son wanted nothing to do with his Strider. The air tires on his new bike seemed to provided extra cushion when going over curbs and small jumps and he no longer experienced "fish tailing" due to loss of traction in dirt or even on dusty roads. Now, three years later, my younger son is eager to ride with his older siblings, but our balance bike with air tires is too big for him, so we pulled out the old Strider, which we knew was smaller. Not seeing the Strider for a while, we soon realized that time had not been nice to our poor Strider. The foam wheels had no traction left, the paint was chipping and the tires no longer spun freely due to dust clogging the wheel bearings. Still wanting a smaller bike for our son (and knowing that the Strider would fit), we were optimistic upon learning about the new ST-4.

My son liked it, but he is tall for his age (4 years old). We even got the XL saddle because I read reviews that he might need the bigger saddle. With the XL saddle as high as it could go, it was just fitting him or just a little to small. He's 42-43" tall and is wearing 5T pants. If that's your child, I would go for the 16"bike.

Good price, but it didn't seem quite as sturdy as the one I bought a few years ago for my older son (which he still loves to use). The seat is pretty small and the grips on the handle bars don't seem as durable, but overall we're still happy with this line. Maybe we should have shelled out more for the pricier one.
Both our boys (3 and 4 1/2) love their bikes and prefer them any day to the bikes they have with pedals and training wheels.
Living in the city, I feel much safer with them riding on the sidewalks than when they're on the pedal bikes. With the pedal bikes they're higher up off the ground and seem to fall over a lot more on the little bumps or irregularities in the sidewalk.
On the Strider they seem very in control of the bike, almost never fall off (maybe three times in the nearly three years we've had one for my older son), and have no problems navigating tough parts of the sidewalk.
Within a few days of getting this bike for my younger son (3 y.o.) he was already starting to lift his feet off the ground to glide. Amazing!

We bought this for our son's 2nd birthday in May and it was a hit right away! He spent the summer continually gaining speed and confidence and by the following January (as soon as the snow melted), he jumped on and took off!! He's getting ready to turn 3 and is now so proficient on this bike that I have to ride along next to him to keep up. I clocked him at 7.0 mph the other day! We did order the add-on brake earlier this spring, because he started putting holes in his shoes as he dragged them along the ground in order to stop. We're still working on re-training him to use the brake and not his shoes. Perhaps we should have installed that right away! Overall, a great buy! We joke that we're going to have to replace the tires before baby #2 gets to ride!

My son (3 years) LOVES this bike once I bought the higher/softer seat. (I'd give it 3 stars with the seat as is, 5 stars with the softer seat.) At first he basically refused to sit on it because it said it hurt his bum. Note that the seat that comes with this bike is a hard plastic. Not a soft one like on adult bikes. Based on this, and because my son is as tall as a 4 year old, we bought the taller one. Now he loves it. Zooms around the neighborhood and is balancing like a pro. It's quite impressive to see. When he's ready for a bike with wheels (maybe another year since he's enjoying this one so much), he won't need training wheels.

My son is 3 years, 3 months old and thanks to this little wonder is riding the neighborhood with us and already showing lots of interest in the next step- a 12" pedal bike. His confidence is better than it ever could have been with training wheels and because it's so light and thin we take it in the car with us often so he's riding many places he wouldn't have otherwise. Seems solid and we've had no dueability issues or sharp edges.

Worse than the previous strider I bought (KTM). The seat is really cheap, handle bar also downgraded and to turn the handlebar/wheel today is very difficult (too tight). Bad surprise, I wonder why...
