  • In the game, the player takes control of Strider Hiryu, a ninja-style warrior who must defeat a legendary being known as Grandmaster Meio. Meio has observed Earth from his dwelling in a far off galaxy, and has created a space station (known as "The Third Moon"), between Earth and its original moon in order to rule earth and continue observation. The year is 2048. Armed with a Cypher (a razor-sharp blade, wielded similarly to a tonfa which generates metal-cutting plasma) called Falchion, Hiryu must travel around the globe (including the Soviet Union and the Amazon Rainforest) to find and destroy the evil being. Throughout his travels, Hiryu encounters many power-ups, including robotic animals called "Options" (a hawk and a leopard) which help him defeat enemies. He also has the ability to latch onto walls and ceilings using a metallic hook — an aspect which set the game apart from other platformers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Strider is an epic win, April 16, 2009
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Strider (Video Game)
A killer app for the Sega Genesis almost 20 years ago this was a great port of the arcade game pixel perfect. It didn't have the voices from the arcade but that was just funny anyway no huge loss. There is slow down which is a nuisance but I have a problem landing my jumps but at certain times all this can be overlooked becuse the gameplay is very good. Strider's sprite is larger than the arcade version the sword swipe is better the ending is way better but out of voices being took out and the slow down and landing jumps problem it remains unchanged from the arcade aside from the the better ending on the Genesis version. You should check out both on the Capcom Classics collection vol 2 on PS2 or on Strider 2 which comes with Strider 1 on the PS1 but play this version on the Genesis it's probably the best out of all the version's of Strider 1.

4.0 out of 5 stars The first and best of the Striders, October 8, 2003

This review is from: Strider (Video Game)
Strider was an arcade classic action title featuring a ninja with an extremely large sword swipe attack. He could cut through robots and giant androids like a hot knife through butter. Still a blast to play, still some of the best graphics on the Genesis, and the best translation from the arcade game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another jem., July 17, 2010
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Strider (Video Game)
Strider may not be as well known as Mario or Sonic but that didn't stop this masterpiece from making its mark on the video game world.
Insanely difficult game play.
Gorgeous graphics.
A very rewarding game from start to finish, just expect a few "broken out of sheer frustration" controllers along the way.
Recommended.
