2.0 out of 5 stars Great esthetics, terrible durability.
I purchased this for my son. He loved it. It came with great accessories and it was probably the coolest looking action figure we've seen. Shirtly thereafter, it was so loose it he could not even play with it! If you want to buy it to look at, it's very cool. If you actually want to play with it, pass on it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Greatest Snake Eyes Yet., March 26, 2010

This review is from: Snake Eyes City Strike Action Figure GI Joe Movie Rise of Cobra (Toy)
From one of the final waves of the Rise of Cobra Line, City Strike Snake Eyes came as a bit of a blindside to many and completely alien to the uninformed; he looks nothing like the other RoC Snake Eyes. The reason for both of these is because CS SS is in fact based on his appearance in the G.I. Joe: Resolute animation. So how does this figure hold up to the standard of crazy awesome set by both the animation, previous figures, and character itself? Pretty darn good.

Let's discuss articulation first. The joints are firm yet smooth, and while it uses the same articulation as all other 25th/ME/RoC Joes, Snake Eyes feels unusually flexible, which is good, because this allows for all sorts of absurd Ninja poses, from a drop kick to a lunging strike.

His accessories are also quite impressive. Ol' Snakey comes armed to the teeth with a G36K carbine, pistol, knife, and MP9 sub-machine gun that was previously included with the other RoC Snake Eyes and City Strike Duke, as well as his signature sword and sheath, clawed shoes that were included with the Snow Serpent, and two backpacks; the small one that was seen in Resolute, and a backpack with a working rappel mechanism in lieu of the ridiculous spring-loaded missile launchers or handle bars-on-suction cups seen elsewhere in the line. The sword is surprisingly sturdy despite its thin and flimsy appearance, and fits snugly into the sheath. It should be noted that unlike previous versions of Snake Eyes, this sheath actually attaches to the back of his belt, which is true to the animation. Also, after toying around with it a bit, I've found that at the top of the Rappel pack, there is a small loop that that the sheath's peg just happens to fit into perfectly. I don't know whether this was intended by Hasbro or not, but it's very neat nonetheless.

But the sculpt is by far the most impressive feature of this guy. It captures the dimensions and appearance of the Ninja Commando's Resolute appearance perfectly, combining the Ninja and Commando aspect flawlessly from the face mask to the body suit and shin guards, and being thin, muscular, and very light in appearance, without being too lanky. The paint applications are also quite wonderful, fitting the "urban assault" theme suggested by the subgrouping, and yet still retaining that Ninja-y goodness.

All in all, this is a HIGHLY recommended figure, essentially being THE PERFECT Snake Eyes for the forseeable future, even with an even more Resolute-accurate due out in the fall of this year. If you see him, grab him, for he is truly worth the price of admission and more, and much like a true ninja, you'll only get a glimpse of him before he's gone!

Since I was a kid Snake Eyes has been my absolute favorite GI JOE character, so I was very excited to see a new rendition of this character. In addition I was excited to see a rendition of this character modeled after his appearance in the GI JOE RESOLUTE cartoon/series.

Good:

I thouroughy enjoyed the sculpt on this figure. Sculpted after Snake Eye's appearance in GI Joe RESOLUTE, this figure captures the likeness incredibly well. He has a cool belt and webbing vest, not sculpted on but permanantely attached, which gives this figure a realistic appearance. In addition I really like the tech-ninja look that they gave this figure.

This figure (like most new GI Joes) came with a "crap ton" of accessories: 1 katana, 1 scabbard, 1 assault rifle, 1 sub-machine gun, 1 pistol, 1 combat knife, 1 small backpack, 1 huge backpack with a rope and hook, 2 rock climbing over shoes, and a display stand. Whew. All of these accessories are well painted and relatively detailed (for 3.75 figures anyways). If snake eyes were a real soldier he would either be happy to have all the equipment needed to liberate a small country, or he would complain about having to hump all that crap.

The articulation on this figure is standard for most current era GI Joes. There are a wide range of poses that can be achieved to display him doing what he does best, being a ninja commando. I was dissapointed with the limited range movement with some of these joints however, more poses could definetely be attained if the joints had a wider range of movement.

Bad:

Even though this figure has a "crap-ton" of cool weapons I was dissapointed that we were not given any way for snake eyes to carry these weapons on his person. Minus the scabbard for the katana, we were not provided any means to display Snake Eyes carryin his weapons on him.

My biggest issue with this figure was its durability. The first figure I got had joints that went loose after minimal handling, which left the figure feeling flimsy. This made it vey hard to stand up the figure, even with the display stand(due to the fact that the holes in the feet don't fit the pegs on the base well). I actually had to purchase a second copy of this figure after the first one went to crap.

Summary:

Any Snake Eyes figure in my opinion is worth buying in my opinion. Even if you are not a big fan of the Rise of Cobra movie or toyline (which I am not), you can appreciate the fact that Hasbro has given us a cool new figure based off his appearance in the RESOLUTE series. In addition I think this version of Snake Eyes is the most aesthetically pleasing to date. If you can find him at Wal-Mart in droves (like I did the first time I purchased him) he goes for $5, which is CRAZY cheep. If you find him online he will go for at least twice that, but still that is relatively affordable. This version is an absolute must for Snake Eyes fans, and a great addition to any GI JOE collection.
