Product Description

Strike-Guard controls your slack line but will allow a fish to run with your bait until you want to set the hook. At the same time, the guard does not allow the fish any more slack line than the fisherman wants it to have. The bait line remains natural and free but under control. When a fish strikes, Strike-Guard automatically releases the line and allows the line to peel off the spool of the reel. The fisherman picks up his pole, sets his hook, and the rest is natural.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you like drift fishing, this is a must-have accessory!, June 20, 2009

I've been using Strike Guards for years now...just ran across this here as I want to get a couple for a friend after he saw mine and I was surprised to find that these are sort of hard to find. None of the major fishing outlets carry them. I had picked them up at a local bait store.

I was so frustrated after a few trips drift fishing on the bottom for walleyes. One, you're going to snag when you're fishing this way. You need to be on the bottom, and you need to be around structure. I had to keep an eye on my fishing poles constantly to make sure they didn't fly out of the boat! Two, if the fish are being cautious, when they pick up and feel the hard tension of a closed bail, they tend to let go. I had so many strong strikes, but when I picked up my rod the fish was gone.

The Strike Guard lets you set the tension on your line with your bail open. Set it just tight enough that bottom bouncing and light snags don't pop the line out, but serious snags and big fish do. You really do catch more fish, and it's a life preserver for your tackle.

The best part is, they're simple. All it is is a plastic screw that applies tension to a ball bearing. Tighten to hold the line tighter, loosen to allow it to pop out easier. And this simplicity also makes them durable. I've had mine for 5 years now and they're still working just fine.

It's rare to find something so simple to address an annoying problem that is perfectly purpose built, easy to use, relatively inexpensive, and durable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good, but the price?, December 2, 2011
This review is from: Strike-Guard (Misc.)
This is a small but functional accessory for trolling, allowing the fish to grab the bait and run with it without knowing there is a human at the other end, waiting to set the hook. great piece of equipment, TERRIBLE price.
