Black Box LOL, October 20, 2003
This review is from: Strike It Up: Best Of Black Box (Audio CD)
I remember hearing "Everybody" on the radio and I loved it. Then a little while later, I saw it performed on Soul Train. Even at the ripe old age of 9, I knew that the French chick who couldn't speak a lick of English, lip-synching the lyrics, wasn't the one who recorded the vocals. It was so funny because my mother was like, "Now they need to be ashamed of themselves! Anyone with a brain in their heads, knows that that's Martha Wash's voice!" And sure enough, Ms. Wash filed a lawsuit against the record company. But all silliness aside, the music was damn good!

Had this same cd for many years and it being my favorite and was very disappointed when it got destroyed in my 10 cd player. Looked in all area stores and when travelling to no avail. So life would just have to go on with just memories until my girlfriend suggested AMAZON. Voila about 15 or so to choose from, couldn't beleive it. Bought a new one and was given a window for delivery of about 2 weeks. It came in before window started and came from a vendor less than 15 miles from my home. My first experience with AMAZON won't be my last

Dance Music Par Excellance, April 29, 2001
This review is from: Strike It Up: Best Of Black Box (Audio CD)
I don't know how I heard about this band (back in 1995) but I bought this CD (The Greatest Hits) and it was soon my number one workout CD. I still can listen to it and never tire of the songs. As a dance music collector and part time DJ, this CD would get everyone out there and feeling good. The music isn't too disco-y, too techno or too rap. It's got solid musical writing/playing, great percussion and great singing by the female vocalist! She's so good I"m surprised she hasn't been nabbed by another band. I can only say I wish there was more Black Box music. I have a hundred dance cds (from the 70s through '01) and this is one of the best music in my collection.
I realize the wonderful vocalist did not authorize her tracks to be used. Well, I'm not privy to all the hi-jinks. But, apparently there were many. At any rate, the woman can sing. She can soar with her voice. She makes the songs. So, Miss Diva, if they did they did wrong by you (and I don't know the story, I'm just a music lover), you still sound incredible. I don't think this is a reason to pass up on one of the best dance albums made. The woman's voice is one-in-a-lifetime and the band is awesome, too. I guess there is a lot of drama behind the scenes those not in the biz don't really know about. We hear the music. But, I know it is a tough biz.
