Ignore those sour-pusses, this is a good DVD,

I can't believe all the whiners that gave this one star. I've had this DVD for years and have seen it numerous times and still enjoy it every time I see it. I'm a Dead-vet with more than 60 shows under my belt, and say without hesitation that SCI brings it on a nightly basis better than the Dead did for the last 15 years of Jerry's life. I realize this is blasphemy in many people's book, but we're all entitled to our own opinion. I've seen SCI more than 10 times over the past 7 years and I think they're still getting better. The past couple years have been incredible! So ignore those that say that they're past they're peak and go see them the next chance you get. Until, enjoy the history and quality music on this disc! Seeing Keller Williams play "Kidney in a Cooler" is worth the price alone.

Talk about the DVD, not how your musical tastes are correct for everyone else!,

To all the complainers and haters on this review board, you should listen to more music than complain about what you don't understand. The DVD is a great look into the band, and as it says on the cover the "Evolution of String Cheese." It has in depth interviews that give you a sense of knowledge behind the band, their inspiration, and their music.
Secondly, I would not even begin to read the review that speaks of the Dead's mediocre albums and such. The guy says besides American Beauty and Working Man's Dead. Um...does Wake of the Flood, Blues for Allah, and Shakedown ring a bell? Probaly not because this "listener" and "follower" of the dead isn't one at all. He's a hippocrit and a head follower. (not a deadhead) I think this guy who rated this DVD one star should maybe dive a little deeper past the 11th grade knowledge of the grateful dead. Anyways...great DVD for Cheese fans. If you're not a cheese fan, I don't know why you'd want to start to know them before knowing their music...so I guess I suggest this to Cheese fans. And by the way...check a few Grateful Dead albums while you're waiting for your delivery.

I tried really hard to understand this DVD, and why everyone likes it so much, but I just can't get it. And mind you, I'm a huge fan of the band, seen them four times. But this disc is really just a joke. The performance filmed (the 2000 New Year's show) wasn't even one of the band's best nights, for starters. Then you get partial songs (not even the best of the night), interrupted rudely by really worthless comments from the band members, with each band member basically re-wording the same ideas multiple times throughout the video. The live footage is far from brilliant either. Granted, I'm sure the band didn't have a U2-sized budget to film it, but it's visually among the weakest live concert DVD footage I've ever seen. If you're expecting any kind of "at home" String Cheese live experience, you're probably going to be disappointed. Continual disruptions in the music, poor editing of song lengths, bad visual effects, and some questionable song choices to begin with (Howard and Turn This Around, but no Rivertrance? Come on) make this almost unwatchable. Obviously the band got a little big-headed and opted to make a self-fufilling "documentary" instead of just releasing an uncut show on their first DVD. Save your money, go see a real SCI show, and hope that the band learns their lesson and a better DVD follows soon.

As others have said, this is not a concert DVD in the usual sense, but rather it tracks the "evolution" of the group, with lots of "cinema verite" touches. The parts shot in Portland during Y2K are somewhat embarrassing to a portlander, but then now we have "Portlandia," which is what we so richly deserve. A much better concert dvd of SCI is the Denver Fillmore collection. THIS dvd violates one of my "concert video" rules: Never, EVER, interrupt a live performance with a stupid offset interview, or, in the case of this mess, a lovely "nature" video. If I want that crap, I'll watch AMTRAK commercials for the soaring eagles, rushing rivers, etc., etc. On the other hand, I got this thing used for about five bucks, postage included...

Peakin' at the Peak,

This is not a String Cheese Concert film. It is a documentary of the absolutely amazing New Years Eve 2000, "String Cheese Odyssey" show. The event is a bit like Cirque Du Soleil, Mardis Gras and a Goa rave mixed with The String Cheese Incident onstage. This makes a feast for the eyes and ears and unlike any "rock show" you have ever seen. The amazing thing is that most of the participants in this psychedelic parade/celebration are the audience members and concert attendees. There is a collective genius at work here and should be seen to be believed. I hope these dvd's become an annual release.

Evolution captures a classic performance,

The footage is sharp and the sound is impeccable! The crowd seems full of energy -- a mood that radiates into your living room in a whirl of lights and costumes. The setlist is packed with some of their best material, and the band and fan interviews are tons of fun. Dig it!I've been following these musicians for quite a while, and I can honestly say that they have hit full stride with this release. Impressive, really.

A great film. Great soundtrack and they did a great job capturing the events and emotions behind the music and the family. It brought me to joyful tears twice. Better than Phish's Bittersweet Motel. A true Incident!

Take the dead, phish, and old and in the way, throw in a nice light show and what do you get? string cheese, what a rip off, they copy everyone out there.Mr. Kang has an awful lot of talent but thats it, this dvd is aweful, they do covers of covers other bands have already done, they were good in earlier days, and should have stuck to blue grass, oh wait thats been done too.

This band is seriously overrated and so is this dvd.,

For the love of all that is holy, when are people going to realize that SCI is a mediocre bar band at best, featuring warmed over jams that rip off all of the more accomplished and more talented "jam" bands out there? I had the misfortune of sitting through this sad excuse for a documentary/concert film at a friend's house and it is an evening I have lost forever. Do yourself a favor and don't buy, much less see, this dvd. Instead, save your money to invest in some cd's or dvd's of the dozens and dozens of much better bands out there, or better yet, go and see some real live music at your favorite local venue. I guarantee whichever band you happen to see will blow the pants of these shoeless wonders.
