Any devout coldplay fan or fresh off the streets and never heard of these Brits conquering the world will be able to appreciate this beatiful rendition. 2.0 out of 5 stars Vitamin Records? Give me a break!
The one reviewer that pulled apart this album's mistake lied in that his dislike for Coldplay overwhelmed his review for this album. In this case, you're not reviewing the band -- you're reviewing the quartet.

The arrangements themselves are simplistic and non-innovative. It's as if the quartet bought a Coldplay piano book and divided up the chords and parts among the...

Any devout coldplay fan or fresh off the streets and never heard of these Brits conquering the world will be able to appreciate this beatiful rendition. This CD covers all the good songs, popular or not popular - the most moving of them all (selected primarily from Parachutes and Rush). This cd will give anyone with an appreciation for music goosebumps! Absolutely a nice compliment to any CD colelction... Something good to listen to driving on a Sunday afternoon or something to get you pumped up for your morning jog. The String Quartets ability to take all the delicate composition of Chris Martins voice and potray it so well with a string instrument is unreal. A MUST HAVE!

5.0 out of 5 stars Musicianship is exceptional, wonderful concept., June 22, 2003

I'm sure its been done before, but putting melodies as inventive as Coldplay's into a chamber arrangement is just a great idea. I have nothing but good things to say about this. The musicianship is great - very challenging bass lines in the cello and the lyric melody is never left unattended. The arranger(s) worked hard to make sure that every nuance of the song is present. I have to admire their attention to dynamics, as well. I would recommend this CD to any Coldplay fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars One word: WOW., June 23, 2003

I'll be the first to tell you that I'm not a classical music fan, so I didn't know what to expect when I bought this CD. I was looking at another tribute CD at the same time, but one thing clinched it: One of my alltime favorite Coldplay songs, "Shiver".

I popped this in while waiting for a parental unit and another relative to come out of a store (I was impatient to go get the new Harry Potter book), in an effort to make the time pass quicker. Needless to say, I was stunned, and by the second track, I was lost in it. I ended up listening to it all the way home. Excellently done, perfect for just about any occasion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible!, February 7, 2006

Ok, I truly loved this album, and yes I have been a Coldplay fan for years. For those who don't know a string quartet tribute is a group of four (quartet) string's take on music, and not the instrumentation of the music with the absence of vocals (I don't want to belittle the intelligence of readers, but apparently after reading some reviews its necessary) I thought the music was just that, a beautiful take on original masterpieces. Yet it could also be because I do really love classical music, and have a great appreciation for the sounds of strings. I was saddened when reading over some reviews, and expected better taste from Coldplay fans. I do indeed think that if you are intelligent enough to appreciate the sound of classical music, then you will love this album. Of course it is not Coldplay but it still deserves credit as beautiful compositions. P.S. for those thinking that the creators of this cd are shameless Coldplay butchers, consider that they had to get a license, and if Coldplay did not appreciate this cd themselves I doubt it would be selling at this point.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of Coldplay & string music worlds, February 22, 2006
This review is from: String Quart Tribute to Coldplay (Audio CD)
This is definitely the best album by the String Quartet. The anthemic Coldplay sound is transformed into a beautiful classical/soundtrack experience. The result is simply breathtaking! Highly recommended. Just one minor problem: they didn't include The Scientist...

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, April 13, 2004

I have this CD and must say I am totally impressed. I am an avid violinist so this might impact my rating just a little bit. I enjoy Coldplay, however, amazingly, I find this to be even more enjoyable than their original (probably just heard it too many times!) I find the quartet to have excellent controll in the dynamics and style of their play so they accurately copy human vocals. Even if you don't know the words, it still conveys the feeling of the song excellently.

My advice: Go check out all the other string tributes from Vitamin Records! They are simply some of the best out there!

The String Quartet Tribute to Coldplay is essential to anyone who is a coldplay fan! When the first track plays, Yellow, you'll soon find yourself humming or singing along to the simple yet wonderful renditions of some of the best Coldplay songs. Whoever put this cd together deserves to get thanked! A great cd to chillout to when everything's not lost. I recommend this cd to any Coldplay fan! ..Now if only they did some sort of orchestrated cd for Dave.

The one reviewer that pulled apart this album's mistake lied in that his dislike for Coldplay overwhelmed his review for this album. In this case, you're not reviewing the band -- you're reviewing the quartet.

The arrangements themselves are simplistic and non-innovative. It's as if the quartet bought a Coldplay piano book and divided up the chords and parts among the instruments. The cello's take basic first-year techniques towards chords to create that standard quartet sound (almost Chamber like).

The album itself is sub-standard recording (it could be the quality of the instruments) and it really is for just diehard Coldplay fans who also happen to have an appreciation for string quartets.

Don't expect any orchesteral masterpieces. Strings simply sound impressive. This album could of have just as easily produced as a "Piano Tribute". A tribute album needs to be more thought out, innovative, and better produced.

Take a look at the record label. Explore the label, it is almost scam-like how it is an onslaught of medicore musicians who are probably paid cheaply to make Tribute CD's. Go listen to the Lounge Tribute to Eminem and see for yourself.

See for yourself www.vitaminrecords.com. It's ridiculous.

If you like Coldplay, this will be an interesting complement to your collection. The classical interpretation may trouble you at first, but after listening a few times, I've come to like it a lot.

3.0 out of 5 stars Opinions are like..., March 30, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: String Quart Tribute to Coldplay (Audio CD)
Ok I'm a Coldplay fan, and other than the rendition of Clocks, I found nothing of value in this CD (and i prefer to hear the piano version anyway). Like someone else said, a string quartet just isn't enough of a range to truly do Coldplay justice on an instrumental level... it deserves a full orchestra.
And the only reason I give Clocks any points is because it will always be a favorite of mine on any instrument; the perfect mix of simple elegance lacing a profound desire... though like I said, nothing will beat the feeling you get when those first chords begin to sound from Chris Martin's piano... nothing.
But thats just my opinion. I still bought it, and I occationally listen to it. Just don't get your hopes up just because you see the words "String Quartet" on the cover of your favorite band. This ain't no symphony, folks.
