5.0 out of 5 stars Great arrangements, but an inaccurate track listing
This is a great CD, with a lot of depth and emotion. I find these stringed arrangements to be consistent with the original Matchbox songs, although the track listing on this CD is inaccurate. For example, where track 3 is listed as "If You're Gone", it is actually "3am". Further examples:

3.0 out of 5 stars Strings tribute not for Mozart!
Having a string quartet interpret some of your favourite band's songs would definitely make an interesting listen. And now that I've had a few spins of it on my player, I think that it was a brave attempt for four talented classical players to produce.

The Accurate Track Listing

So, this CD is certainly worth the money, as it is quiet, yet poignant. Just know that the listing on the back and in the liner notes in inaccurate.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quite pleasing..., January 27, 2005
This review is from: String Quart Tribute to Matchbox Twenty (Audio CD)
I think this is one album that Matchbox Twenty fans should definitly look into. I must say that you should not expect any sort of guitars or any instruments of that sort. The instruments used, as stated on the back cover of the case, are violins, cellos, violas, and bass. Of course, there may be some other unknown instruments used, but don't expect to be jammin' to the beats or anything. Anyway, let's review the album.

This albume consists of 9 Matchbox Twenty songs and 1 original composition. Each song is arranged to sound just like the original, except with different instruments, or course. You can go to any song and you'll know which one it is just a few seconds into it... that is, if you know the original songs as well. And sometimes you might actually want to sing to them too. The only down side to this album is that, when I first started listening to it, each song was kind of repetitive. Not that each song sounded the same, but the songs sort of repeated themselves. But I got over that quickly, and it doesn't bother me anymore. Anyway, overall, it's a great album. It's an excellent addition to a fan's collection. I just wish that they waited another year so they could do songs from Matchbox Twenty's album "More Than You Think You Are" and get some more songs onto this.

I bought this CD and flipped. I am a big MB20 fan, and when I heard the starting notes of "Bent" I flipped. It was extremely well done for a quartet of musicians. I suggest if you like MB20 then you should buy the CD.

3.0 out of 5 stars Strings tribute not for Mozart!, March 20, 2003

Having a string quartet interpret some of your favourite band's songs would definitely make an interesting listen. And now that I've had a few spins of it on my player, I think that it was a brave attempt for four talented classical players to produce.

I found some songs hard to pick first time listening, and as previously mentioned, the track listings are incorrect. However, the rendition of some tracks on strings definitely bring a new light to songs you'd so easily identify a rugged voice to. "Busted" is definitely a favourite with haunting arrangements and accuracy in the melody line.

A good one for something a little different, but only for rockers with a little soft edge!

3.0 out of 5 stars Meh, October 29, 2006
This review is from: String Quart Tribute to Matchbox Twenty (Audio CD)
I actually happen to like this. I thought, cheesiness aside, it was fairly well done. I actually think the Quartet's version of Kody stands on its own.

However, what really peeved me was that the track listing was completely messed up. It didn't strike me as being a very respectful tribute if they couldn't manage to get that straigtened out.

Overall, intriguing, but not wholly satisfying.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected, September 16, 2005

Being die-hard Matchbox 20 fans, we were pretty excited to hear this CD, unfortunately, it did not live up to expectations. I guess there is not much you can do with a quartet, I thought the arrangements sounded "cheesy"--we laughed at how bad it was.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, November 6, 2002

Ok i am a die hard M20 fan. I went to there concerts, have all of there CD's, including the Original Tabotha's Secret released in 1993, and this cd just plain [,,,]. I might listen to it again sometime, but i really thought it was a waste of my money. Its such an empty sound, as it is not a full orchestra. Just four people, each playing a different intrument areon it. I was expecting more really, and a few songs really disgraced the originals. If you like Matchbox 20 don't buy it, but if you like the horible sounds of a string quartet, then you should get this one

5.0 out of 5 stars This is what classical music should sound like, March 31, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: String Quart Tribute to Matchbox Twenty (Audio CD)
A lot of classical music is so boring I just want to drive off the road when I hear it on the radio. This one is different. Even if I didn't know any of the songs, I would still like this CD. Each instrument gets its moments. Unlike other classical tribute CD's, it sounds as if the musicians actually understand the music they are playing.
