John Lennon. They were the band. And they made the music. From the free-spirit energy of "Please, Please Me" through the experimental exuberance of Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band and the White Album to the exquisite romanticism of Abbey Road, the Beatles made rock art and art rock. Revolutions ignited, cultures exploded, and minds expanded to the backbeat of a youth-world soundtrack by Lennon, McCartney, Harrison and Starr.

Beyond Awful,
This review is from: String Quartet Tribute to the Beatles (Audio CD)
Calling this collection of songs amateurish is an insult to amateur musicians. The so-called musicianship is dreadful, the arrangements uninspired (i.e., dull) and the recording/sound clipped and compressed.
To my ears, it sounds that at least some (if not all) of the song parts are created by using MIDI sequencers. That in itself is not the end of the world, but the arrangements are simplistic enough to not challenge even a middle school student quartet. Yes, The Beatles are great. Real chamber music is great as well, but avoid this lame potboiler "tribute" like the plague.

I enjoy it for what it is...,

Some people just don't get it with these Vitamin String tributes - you don't listen to them to hear your favorite artist per se, you listen to hear a string quartet play something other than Mozart or Bach or whoever. And when the tunes are recognizable, all the better. When traditional classical music is too boring/serious and you're not in the mood for loud, mind-blowing Rock n Roll...this is an enjoyable option. They are not uninspired, they are dutiful classical musicians following the music...as most classical recordings are by musicians who are performing AS the music instructs. Yes, mechanical, technical skill...They shouldn't be trying to embellish or over-do the original...that's why you have the original album already, damnit.
I think this one for the Beatles is especially nice, since Beatles music lends itself well to this type of interpretation. There are some truly bad Vitamin tributes but that's because the originals were really lacking to begin with. I would say those are the artists who use the most distortion and studio manipulation to create a false sense of "fullness" in their music. ...These are also great for wedding ceremonies because you can have your favorite artist (or at least second favorite, even hard and heavy bands) being played in a way that won't be "offensive" and is much more timeless in its sound so you can have fewer regrets about your wedding video in 20 years, right?

First I love the Beatles, but secondly this string quartet rendition of their music is a tribute to their music. I love when you can take any rock and roll music and have it played in a string quartet fashion. I think it only makes the music better! My opinion only as I'm a classical music fan. It was nice to preview it first before I bought the CD. Thanks AMazon!
