Editorial Reviews

The powerful melodies of Nirvana's pop-meets-punk compositions are particulary well suited to the string quartet arrangements of the Sting Tribute to Nirvana.

I bought this CD on a whim, and I was not that impressed with it. I think it's slightly better than an elevator-muzak version of Nirvana's songs. I think Nirvana's music could be done well in a classical style, I just don't think this CD does that. A good example of this is Christopher O'Reilly's album, "True Love Waits", which takes Radiohead songs and turns them into classical songs. While it could be argued that Radiohead's music lends itself better to classical music, I think that album picks up more on the complex structure of Radiohead's music...this is a quality Nirvana's music also has, but this music doesn't even come close to capturing that.

this cd is a great cd. it gives nirvana fans a chance to hear there favorite melodies in classical style. it starts off with a great put together classical version of rape me which isnt one of the highlights but is still a great song. then the best song on the cd in my opinion come as you are which follows the beat perfectly to the actual song but is much more mellower. the song starts off with low violin that adds bueatifully done bass and hader but still mellow violin to make a great song. smells like teen spirit to me is the only flaw on the whole cd considering thAT it is not in very good beat to the actual song but it is still a great tune for some great melody this song is why i gave it a 4 by the way. then come all apoligies which is done pretty well but not alot of backround but still great. then on a plain which is the next best song to come as you are on the cd if not the same which has great bass riffs in between wonderful harmony violin great song once again. then polly which is good too but not the best bass in that song. then comes heart shaped box which i dont think was done to the fullst ability that it could have been done too. then peneroyal tea which was done just as good as come as you are and on a plain well done song with great bass and harmony insturments. something in the way is done rather odd but it is still a great tune. and the last song isnt nirvana but its still a great tune. so if your listning for some great easy listning instrumental tunes it would be a pretty good buy.

when i bought this cd i was so happy. its great. when i listen to it, even though i cant here kurts words i still feel the raw power of nirvana somehow. i think the whole thing was just awsome. even the original that they put on there was cool. kurt cobain was not nirvana. krist, dave, and kurt were nirvana. you can here the music's beauty in songs like "something in the way" and you can still feel the raw edge in songs like "rape me", and "smells like teen spirit". if you are a hardcore nirvana fan who also injoys classical music you should most definately get this cd.i hightly reccommend it.

This is a great CD for Nirvana fans, or just for those who like orchestra. Cobain, Noveselic, and Grohl's songs translate beautifully and extremely well. Definately worth spending some money on. A very good buy.

I usually don't write reviews but I have to say that I was a little disappointed with this album. I love Nirvana so that is a major saving grace for this album, however I feel that a lot more could have been done with the compositions to make sure their transition to classical strings sounded pleasing. I just get the feeling that some of the tracks are low recording quality (On a Plain), not well played, or just off in some way. Some of the tracks come off very nicely (Come As You Are), others just sound a little off, as if one of the instruments if off key.

I am a total Nirvana fan... but, my friends and colleagues, well, not so much. Now, with this CD, it's like having the best of both world's! I can have my dinner parties, and still get away with listening to Nirvana at the same time! It's like classical music set to my favorite tunes! Like Kurt and Bach go head to head or something. I really enjoyed it! If you're a Nirvana fan who is afraid to admit it because you wear a suit and are forced to listen to classical music to keep up appearances, buy this CD now! You will love it... and no one will ever know..... :-)

I heard this CD played in my friends car, and even though it was just some violins, I enjoyed it alot. I asked who it was, and they said "Nirvana". I was surprised, and looked around online to see that it was something called a String-Tribute. This is an awesome CD, with songs like Rape Me, Come As You Are, and Smells Like Teen Spirit remade with that orchastral feel to it. It's different, but in a good way. If you're not into this kind of thing, well, neither was I.

I'd recommend this for any rock fan, even those who haven't heard Nirvana. (You probably have and just didn't know who it was.) Nirvana's artistic genius truly shows through this string quartet. Although I'm not ecstatic about Tom Tally's cover of "Something in the Way" it's not something I don't enjoy listening to. Todd Mark Rubenstein, however, does a fantastic job interpreting Nirvana. Or any band I've heard him do so far.

Although at first you may be put off by the idea of hearing your favorite rock in string quartet form, this CD should dispell any doubts. When done well, a string quartet tribute is at least as - if not more - valuable than the original.
