3 superb performances of great quartets,

This CD continues the excellence of the series by the St. Petersburg Quartet. The most pleasant surprise of this CD is the remarkable performance of #15. Prior to hearing this CD, I had dismissed this quartet as the work of a tired and sick man who was just going through the motions. This performance has radically altered my view. Using their mastery of tone color, phrasing, and balance, the St. Pete players make listening to #15 a richly rewarding experience. I don't wish to slight #11 or #13, but these quartets need no special pleading from me. The entire disc is first-class.
