This is a sturdy, hard working wall hanger. I have everything I play regularly hanging from these. Heavy bass, guitars, mandolin. They all fit without issues.

This is a sturdy, hard working wall hanger. I have everything I play regularly hanging from these. Heavy bass, guitars, mandolin. They all fit without issues.

* I have not, and would not bend the two arms for a tighter fit - I've never found it necessary, and I wouldn't want to cause any metal fatigue problems. Also, it's nice to hang any instrument on any hanger. As is these work with every instrument I own, big to small, without bumping tuning machines.

* The rubber covering has not caused any finish issues like some of the vinyl stuff on other cheepie guitar stands can. It's soft enough to hold a guitar without risk of damage, but tough enough that I'm not worried about babying it to make it last. Everything that could ding your guitar is covered with rubber or plastic.

* I have not found the rubber "washers" that provide extra keep-it-on-the-hanger protection at all difficult to install as others have. They slide on with only a little "elbow grease", and the plastic caps they go over hold them on securely. I like them much better than those swivel keepers on some more expensive holders - they don't make it hard to get your guitar out of the holder or scrape on it going in and out.

* The metal base is exactly 3-1/2 inches high - the same as a 1x4 from your local lumber store. You can fasten a 1x4 around your wall at the right height (screw it to the studs, paint it or stain it if you like) and screw the hangers to it. Looks great and is rugged - nothing will fall off the wall. If you just want to fasten a hanger directly to your wall, find a stud and use long enough screws to reach it. Don't use the included wall-board anchors, hanging your instrument from wallboard is just begging for heartbreak. Don't use the included #6 screws, they are pretty wimpy. Don't use wallboard screws, they aren't strong enough either. Go to your hardware store and buy #8 pan-head screws, they will fit through the mounting holes without interference and you aren't likely to shear them off.

* You can't tell from the picture, but these hangers will hold your acoustic guitars away from the wall - they won't touch anything but hanger. No wall rash.

* Even after you buy some stronger screws, they cost half as much as some other hangers that are inferior for some of the above reasons. More lettuce left for things like strings, picks, pedals, that new wine red curly maple LP...

I've bought these hangers more than once, and I'll buy them again if I need more. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Large Holes, But Worth It., September 22, 2005
This review is from: String Swing Metal Home and Studio Wide Guitar Hanger (Black) (Electronics)
Though the dry-wall braces are a little hard to get into the wall all the way without stripping (and after certainly leaving HUGE holes in the wall), I would bet a gorilla swinging from the neck of my bass couldn't pull this heavy-duty sucker down. I feel pretty secure with my guitars hanging 3 ft. off the ground with this unit in the wall.

I have about 10 of these in my guitar room now, and I love em! I used to use floor stands, but these are so much more sensible and convenient. By getting your guitars off the floor, they don't get bumped into/knocked over, and they really free up space.

The installation is cake, and you won't be disappointed in the String Swing's stability. Your guitars will look as if they are on display, and I have discovered that your "musically curious" buddies won't mess with the instruments that are hanging on the wall.

This is just my personal opinion, but I prefer the lower-profile of the metal plate design over the wood block version of this item.

If you're considering these, get 'em!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy and streamlined, May 18, 2008
This review is from: String Swing Metal Home and Studio Wide Guitar Hanger (Black) (Electronics)
My husband's guitar and two basses have been hanging from these little babies for about six months now, and they're not going anywhere. These mounts are VERY sturdy, and the design is streamlined enough that they don't take away from the decor if you're planning on hanging your instruments somewhere other than a dedicated studio. I definitely recommend these.

5.0 out of 5 stars The black one works fine sideways too, January 7, 2008

My guitars are hanging nicely on the wall now. One is a semiacoustic electric (like an ES-335), one is an electric classical Ibanez, and most are solid body. None of them hit the wall behind, and there is no tendency to hit the wall when I retrieve a guitar or hang it back up. This hanger does not stress the guitars, it is a stress-free situation. Because I mounted all the wall hangers on a piece of hardwood that was not quite as tall as the black metal piece, I decided to mount the black metal piece sideways. It works very well this way, except that the words printed on the metal are now sideways, but that's no big deal. I did this with all eight wall hangers I bought, and they all work fine. The only problem with this product is that the large rubber washers near the ends of the forks do not come assembled on the forks. I had to pull them on. This was challenging. I accomplished it by wearing work gloves, lubricating everything with tap water, and holding the rubber washer with a small pipe wrench. Unless your hands are made of leather I suggest you do likewise.

5.0 out of 5 stars It hangs my Bass, November 6, 2007

I have several of these. I hang my mandolin, several guitars, and my rather heavy P-Bass. They all work just fine because I screwed then into studs.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ukulele: too large fork (plus update), September 24, 2011

I used this on the side of a wooden bookshelf for my ukulele. It's attractive. It's well made. It's fork is a tad large for the ukulele It has rubber o-rings that slide, so I can bring them in and the uke does fit then. But then, even the three inch deep uke is close to the bookcase (or wall, if you use it there). The uke hits when I put it in the hanger, so I put a felt pad where the uke body hits the bookcase.

Many uke players simply nail a single nail in the wall and use a loop off string from it around the uke head and tuners. This is much less expensive, holds very well, is even more low profile than this hanger, and never drops a uke. Consider it for your needs.

I'd not buy another of these for a ukulele. It likely works fine for a guitar, though.

I deducted one point for the fact that, even though it's adjustable (the o-rings), and advertised for ukes, it doesn't work well for them. And it's heavy and not stylish, in my opinion. I have the Hercules wall hanger (mechanical gripper) for my electric guitars, and it's fabulous (for guitars; overkill for lightweight ukuleles, maybe).Hercules Stands Wallmount Guitar Hanger GSP39WB

Please click "helpful" so I know you read this, and thank you.

Update 9/7/11: the more I use it, the less I like it. I find that friction tuner ukuleles do not fit on it well at all, and the tuners hit the fork and it can make your uke out of tune. So, for small instruments (you'd have to try it yourself with mandolins and banjos), this is atrocious. Fr guitars, it's not as good as Hercules.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great price on a great hanger!, July 9, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: String Swing Metal Home and Studio Wide Guitar Hanger (Black) (Electronics)
I originally bought two of these hangers to keep my axes up out of the way of my two kids. I was using a guitar stand, but was afraid of my kids tripping over the stand and breaking a neck. I mounted the hangers, and put two of my favorites up. My wife came upstairs and said "Wow, that looks great! You ought to get enough to hang all your guitars." I was shocked, she never tells me to spend money! I bought four more! I looked all over for a good hanger at a good price, Amazon was the best I found. I love having my collection up on the wall. These are solid hangers, and I'm glad I found them here! For the price of one good stand, you can buy three of these.

TIP: To make it easier to put the rubber washers on, just stretch them out a little first with your fingers. They loosen up some, and go on a bit easier.

I read the reviews before I bought this and I have been very satisfied. They were simple to put up and my son loves that his guitars are up and out of the way of the grandkids. My husband is not "handy" so I put them up myself without a problem.
Thanks!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Way to Display Your Favorite Guitar, July 16, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: String Swing Metal Home and Studio Wide Guitar Hanger (Black) (Electronics)
After reading the reviews, I finally purchased three of the metel guitar hangers. They are awesome. I have 1 acoustic, 1 bass, and 1 electric hanging from my wall now. The mount is easy to hang, strong, stable, and great for all types of guitars. It is able to shift to adjust for different size and styles of necks. My full size acoustic guitar is held about 1/2 an inch away from the wall, protecting it from scratches.

Great Product!

Update: We now own 7 of these and they are all still preforming great! I have many different instruments hanging and the finishes are all perfect. The metal plate fits flush against the wall and looks very professional. The rubber washers have kept the guitars from falling off when my son tried to pull one down and lost his balance. The hanger is strong enough to withstand constant removal and replacement of the guitars without showing any wear or tear. I love them!
