Editorial Reviews

American independent cinema is alive and audacious in this award-winning, mind bending, festival favorite. String Theory starts as a seemingly simple morality tale centered on the fate of a beat-up church in Santa Monica, but ends as a psychedelic meditation on the modern experience of God! The Altman-esque cast of characters includes a surfer strung-out on theoretical physics, a dissatisfied lawyer, a morally compromised TV minister, a homeless man, a twisted city councilman, a prostitute, two bookies and a mysterious mute boy. The interactions of these Angelinos over the course of a single day will challenge your assumptions about religion, morality, drugs, politics and the limits of independent cinema.

I picked up this movie out of boredom, thinking I'd see an independent film not worthy of major distribution. Not recognizing the actors, writer, director, or producers, I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the script and charmed by the lead male actor as well as delightful cameo performances by a cast of virtual unknowns that hook you in to their funky world and hold your attention to the end. The one weak link is the female lead who recites her lines like she just received the script the day before shooting began. She is miscast, but the rest of the ensemble is spot on. I'll be looking for the writer in the future... Jake Freydont-Attie...top drawer dialogue and a quirky plot that doesn't disappoint. Want something different? This is it.

An ambitious, fresh, intelligent, mind-bender of a ride, and a trip well worth taking. Firmly embedded in the best traditions of micro-independent filmmaking, "String Theory" starts with story first, offers up a cornucopia of ideas, an ensemble shared "inner vision" quest, and then gently but effectively turns expectations and clichés on their ear. If you're a fan of "What the Bleep...?" spiritual questing, being entertained and challenged to think and question at the same time, if the question "How deep does the rabbit hole really go?" was something that stood out to you in a multi-million dollar Hollywood blockbuster, but seemed underexplored, sign up for more than a theory, but rather an all to brief vision-quest that truly goes deeper, and more entertainingly, than most.

Jake Freydont-Attie does a professional dialog and Josh Milrad directs with style...I can't help but think they are on their way to making their mark in the business. This movie was shot like professionals all the way .The story was interesting and full of surprises. This movie proves there is love and good in everyone....Good prevails over evil and we are all connected .
The acting is very good for unknowns....Small budget ,Art and Entertainment combined!

Pure genius! If you're looking for something a little off the beaten path, not your typical mainstream romantic comedy, this will catch your attention and is a deep, meaningful film. Don't miss it!

Don't watch this if you want to learn something about String Theory. It is some kind of drama that attempts to tie religion/philosophy to science.
