Like the other customer who reviewed this item, I bought this toy on a whim. I had not seen any advertising for it, but it looked interesting.

I bought batteries and as soon as I got home installed them.

I turned it on, and I'm almost ashamed to say I then spent the most fascinated hour and a half of my adult life in the dark, playing.

Someone needs a life, huh?

Anyway, I got my husband hooked on the toy, too. He went out and bought an adapter for it (it sucks up batteries).

I strongly urge anyone who is easily amused with shiny items and pretty lights (almost everyone I know!) to go out and get one.

I've reccommended this item to many friends, and all have loved it.

It's basically a string in the middle which rotates faster on one side then the other creating round shapes and you can change how fast it rotates, the colors of the light shining on it, and how fast the lights pulse. Really cool visual effects. I bought this for my 4 yr old son and he really likes it.

I bought this for my 8 yr old daughter and she loves it!!! The motion, colors and etc is mesmerizing and fun to watch. Plus you can sit back and watch or be in control. What a great find!

I bought this mostly for myself (note: I am 50). But I decided to let my kids use it as well. All I can say is WOW! The thing is amazing! I have only been using it for about an hour but you can make it do such a multitude of patterns and colors, it will blow you away. It is both mesmerizing and beautiful. My kids have found interesting ways to change the "wave forms" of the string by poking or holding it between their fingers.

As far as durability goes, it is all plastic but seems well made. They also include another string and it is replaced by loosening two screws. My guess is you could find a similar kind of string at a store. But is was nice of the company to include it just the same.

All I can say is if you like cool techy things then buy it!

I bought this toy for use in my job with children with disabilities. The toy is simple to operate and fascinating to most people. It is safe and relatively durable. Kids and adults enjoy making the patterns change by adjusting the switches and arms and by touching the moving string. The toy does need a darker room to be enjoyed. Also, kids with long hair should avoid getting hair caught in the spinning string. Since I've had Stringin' It at work, several adults have expressed an interest in purchasing the toy.

When I bought this toy I didnt expect it to be as cool as it really is. I really suggest doing some mind altering substances aka(shrooms) while playing with this toy as it will hypnotize your brain for hours. Every time my friends and myself trip out I make sure I bring this trip machine out. I have had countless hours mezmerizing people and they all call me the trip master. It seems like every time I use this thing I find new ways to manipulate it to create new and funky light shows, I've seen people really freak out over how crazy this thing gets after playing with it for a little bit, even myself. There are just endless combinations of designs and light patterns to create. So I really recommend everyone considering buying this thing to go get some "shrooms" or "sid" or whatever your fancy might be, pick up this Stringin it machine and warp your brain.

I bought this toy on a whim since it seems so good in advertisements (actually I bought it at the local Spencers since it was the cheapest place I could find it - even cheaper than online discount stores). The toy is bigger than I thought it would be, that's the biggest complaint about it.

Doesn't contain any batteries or adaptor, so you're going to have to buy batteries for it. I did notice a 6V adaptor plug for it on the bottom though - not sure if it works since I haven't tried it.

Seems like there are several screen savers on the windows programs that are about as exciting as this toy (and probably free too), so not sure if I can really recommend this toy if you have a computer and an internet connection.

The string action is okay, the string frequently hits the black bars, and the light projection projects lights up to the ceiling, lighting up the room a little bit. Sometimes you can get really neat patterns and it can even possibly teach you some things about frequency, light, etc...

Despite it's fun and the fact that I'm giving it 4 stars, I can't really recommend this item because of the fact that you can get screensavers that are about as fun as this - unless you've seen this in person and really want it.
