The Harp is BACK!,
By guitartist (St. Louis United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Strings Attached: Live Youngstown Symphony Orch (Audio CD)
Not since 1977's How the West was One has there been a full-length LIVE album featuring Phil Keaggy's masterful guitar work. What better occasion than a return not only to his roots in Ohio, but at long last Phil and Glass Harp have come full circle. Glass Harp Strings Attached is so much more than any expectation I might have contrived. The performances are so flawless you may sometimes forget that you are hearing a live album. One really incredible aspect of this live recording is the fact that many bands assemble live albums from the best performances recorded over the span of major tours. This is taken from a single evening's performance! There were no other shows from which to draw a singularly better performance of a given title! If you are a fan of guitar, classic rock, classical music, exceptional musicianship, and instant gratitude, this is definitely one for you. With only five rehearsal hours credited between Harp and the Youngstown Symphony, the quality of musicianship is obvious absolute genius. Keaggy's voice is as youthful as ever (speculation has it that he could be relative to Peter Pan, or even a certain well-preserved Hobbit), and the band's chemistry is as strong as any (and probably stronger than many more). If you are a bit unfamiliar with Glass Harp and/or Phil Keaggy, it is perhaps because of their Christian roots. This in itself only harkens to the integrity of their faith in that they do not seek out fame and fortune, but rather the glory of God through music. While many musicians are quick to sell out with albums that depend on occultic and violent overtones for sales, one listen to the music contained in this volume provides a quick lesson in what God's blessing can do through musicians whose minds are on Him. In this day of pre-fabricated, minimally talented, and just plain shallow assembly line musicianship, Glass Harp Strings Attached is more than a refreshing sound to wearied ears.

Strings Attached -Glass Harp,

Amazing! If you listen to this CD just for the appreciation of Phil Keaggy's guitar wizardry, you'll be more than satisfied. But the reunion of three of the most dynamic musicians that was once Ohio's Best Kept Musical Secret is the real reason to buy this live masterpiece. The joining of a great rock band with the Youngstown Symphony is magical. This is a recording of one concert - not a collection of performances over many evenings. Somehow the technicians were able to capture the magic that is normally reserved for seeing this outstanding trio live and in person. Add this recording to your collection only if you appreciate great music by great musicians.

In a Class of Its Own,
By James Merriner (Marysville, Ohio) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Strings Attached: Live Youngstown Symphony Orch (Audio CD)
This is by far the best live recording I have heard - by anyone. The quality backup of the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra intertwining the mystical handiwork of Phil Keaggy, John Sferra, and Dan Pecchio is superb. Glass Harp's older songs shine as always, and their fresh material brings a new sense of excitement. Songs like the inspiring 'Chalice', the memorable 'Days Gone By', the beautiful 'Let All The Bells Ring', and others bear witness that Glass Harp is as dynamic as ever. Words are inadequate to describe this recording; it is simply in a class of its own. I think you will agree.

STRINGS ATTACHED Is Incredible!!,

This review is from: Strings Attached: Live Youngstown Symphony Orch (Audio CD)
I was fortunate to be at this show, recorded Oct 22, 2000, and I can't believe how incredible this show was! The band is better than ever after 28 years apart (except for occasional get togethers). The vocals are top notch, and the music is class A! The trio of Phil Keaggy, Daniel Pecchio, and John Sferra is tighter than ever, and can still pull off the spontanious jam as well as any band out there! That's what I like about this! Lots of clever and melodic jamming, and also songs with the Youngstown Symphony that give you goose bumps. This is a perfect album for me! Exciting and loaded with old classics and new future classics!! I have been listening to live albums and concerts for most of my 48 years, and this album is #1 on my list!! This is the best quality live album I have ever heard! Throw this in your shopping cart and get it in your player as soon as you can!! Hopefully this band will release lots more live stuff, because each time it is different!!

A Remarkable Comeback!,
By Paul (Ohio) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Strings Attached: Live Youngstown Symphony Orch (Audio CD)
After a nearly thirty year layoff (not counting the occasional reunion concerts)Glass Harp has returned to the music world with a bang.In it's earlier incarnation Glass Harp was a magical trio, given to improvisational flights of fancy that not only displayed the remarkable virtuosity of all three members, but also served the songs well. "Strings Attached" is more than a return to form, it is perhaps their best performance ever, and certainly their best recorded work. "Overture For Guitar And Orchestra" alone is worth the price of this two Cd set and should become a staple of the classical guitar repetoire.

Glass Harp Live,

I attended this concert at Powers auditorium in Youngstown. I think the album is incredible - in some respects even better than the live show. The recording and mixing is excellent, clearly the best live album I've ever owned, except perhaps the Allman Bros. at the Fillmore East. Phil Keaggy is, without a doubt, one of the most talented musicians on the planet.

A spectacular evening caught on disc,

This is a true gem for longtime fans of both Glass Harp and Phil Keaggy; not to mention a great way to familiarize new listeners with this legendary outfit. The recording is one of stellar quality, and the playing is just as spectacular. By utilizing an orchestra, GH gives their sound a whole new dimension that rivals peers such as The Moody Blues, Procol Harum and others who have taken the same musical path. The classic material sounds just as lively as ever, and the brand new songs prove that the magic is still there. This is by far the best live album to come from ANY band in several years, and should not be missed!

GLASS HARP STRINGS ATTATCHED A CLASSIC,
By
This review is from: Strings Attached: Live Youngstown Symphony Orch (Audio CD)
This CD is just great. It covers a great variety of music such as power ballads, folk, and good accoustic. The version of John The Revelator brings you back to the days of Cream. Southbound,Garden, and Black Horse are great accoustic numbers. This is one of the greatest power trio's of all time. I have loved them for 30 years. Phil Keaggy is excellent on his instrumentals of Shades of Green and what is great they kept David and Goliath,I'm Coming Home, and Do Lord all in a row the same way it was on their 3rd LP "It Makes Me Glad". John on drums and Dan on bass. "OH WHAT A BAND", OHIO'S BEST KEPT SECRET.I cant wait until they get back in the studio
