Moloney is a master of stringed instruments--as clearly heard on this CD. His banjo playing is superb, he is probably one of the best banjo players in the world. His guitar work is also very good. In addition, he plays numerous other instruments. Of Moloney's CDs, this is my least favorite, and it is still VERY GOOD. If you like this you will love some of his later works.

Moloney is the Irish master of the tenor banjo and mandolin, and this album showcases his talent and artistry to the max. No one, and I mean NO one else, can run those triplets up and down the neck in a way that makes you forget that it's all done with a pick/plectrum. and his on-the-fly innovations and variations are mind-boggling--pay very close attention. Moloney is also well known as a singer/interpreter of Irish and Irish-American songs, but I believe that it's his instrumental genius that will endure. Also pay close attention to his overdubbed guitar accompaniments, which are damned near perfect in often subtle ways. This album is close to thirty years old, but loses nothing with age. It's influence among Irish musicians today has been immense.
