4.0 out of 5 stars Worth listening to!, July 28, 2000
This review is from: Strings Attached (Audio CD)
Frankly, I ordered this CD just to hear Lenny Pickett play tenor sarrusophone (I wasn't disappointed!), but I find the whole CD well worth listening to. LP also plays a slap-tongued clarinet solo on track 5 that you would swear was a synthesizer. Scott Robinson is also excellent (soprano, alto, bari, and clarinet), as is Peter Ecklund (cornet). Even my wife will listen to this one ;-)

5.0 out of 5 stars PETER ECKLUND IS A NATIONAL TREASURE, July 10, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Strings Attached (Audio CD)
This album show Peter Ecklund at his best, in small combos with some great guitar, mandolin and fiddle players. Anyone who's listened to Peter over the years with groups as diverse as Dave Bromberg's Band and The Orphan Newsboys knows he is one of the most inventive swing musicians around. This is an album that is guarunteed to make you feel better every time you listen to it. "Waltz of the Secret Agents" is brilliant: it sounds like every spy movie theme you've ever heard, but it's totally original. You can see the trench coats and the fog. "Excessively Happy Tune" has some outrageous work by Lenny Pickett on the near-extinct sarousaphone. You need to have this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful trumpet, superb backing, February 22, 2000
This review is from: Strings Attached (Audio CD)
Peter Ecklund: Strings Attached is a magnificent collection of songs by an expressive trumpeter. He does the theme melodically, then variations with care. His supporting cast(s), several different groupings, provide solid background, as well as solos harmonious in spirit with the lead trumpet. 9 of the 16 selections were composed by Peter Ecklund, wonderful new melodies and harmonic progressions are to be enjoyed. Recording is excellent. Worth slipping into the CD player to re-enjoy for month after month.
