Great cinematography, great music, great acting, great movie.
Indiewire
Highly recommended for people who like to indie films or even just a good film that doesn't have the typical big Hollywood budget and Hollywood actors.
GF in IL
I personally couldn't, but I assumed he would not return because of how he left.

Quite impressive for a first film. I was a little skeptical during the first 10-15 minutes, then as the story evolved, I found my emotional involvement growing along with the storyline. I don't want to give anything away, so I'll just say that if you're anything like me & like a love story with an edge, then give Strings a watch. The cinematography alone is gorgeous, but it was the combination of the beauty of the film, characters and music that left me with a lump in my throat and a tears in my eyes.

This film has covered a ton of ground on the U.S. film festival circuit and taken home award after award.

During a Q&A at the SOHO Film Festival, the directors disclosed their extremely low budget. Watching it, it almost seems impossible. I also know it's a first time feature for Texas directors Mark Dennis and Ben Foster... Again, not a hint of amateurism.

Great cinematography, great music, great acting, great movie.

Love the trailer for it: [...]

I'll admit I was a little skeptical about the other reviews on here. I decided to watch the movie for myself. I'm so glad I did! I can't tell you what is great about this movie (sorry) but what I can say is that it keeps you at the edge of your seat. If you don't like the first 10 minutes hold on! It gets a lot better! Give this movie a chance and soon you'll be writing a good review for it. ;)

Well, it IS quite slow at the beginning. The best actor was the girl who played Lily. The plot was somewhat tedious, with enough holes to drive a hummer through--just the most obvious: why didn't the evil boss fall out of a window a lot sooner. This is one of the problems with filming an allegory: one tends to loose sight of the entertainment format of films. Not surprised it was liked on festival circuit. It's their kind of flick. Only a few films have managed to overcome allegorical limits--Cool Hand Luke springs to mind. in spite of the flaws, it was ok, more an example of a flick really working hard, and if this was a first effort, then keep on the lookout for the makers--we'll be hearing from them again.

First full-length feature of directors Dennis & Foster, and it shows; their previous effort was a 22-minute short (The Alternate). Several of the same actors are in this movie as well. The film was made in Austin, Texas.

Low budget indie movie; slow beginning that risks alienating the viewer from the protagonist, a talented but failed musician who abandons his live-in girlfriend after the death of their newborn baby, changes his identity and joins a criminal organization. No spoilers.
After about 15 minutes, the story and the pace pick up in this low-key thriller, with more action and relatively better acting. The plot and the subliminal messages are obvious and predictable. The music is appropriate for the action and mood of the film.

I did not expect much from this film, but I was not disappointed either. I consider it to be good run-of-the-mill entertainment that deserves a solid 3 stars.

So I am not sorry I watched this movie, but I was expecting more. I wanted a psychological thriller, but got neither. I kept expecting a plot twist that never happened. It is not a vigilante movie either. The premise is not very believable, and the protagonist is too passive when trying to get out the bad situation.

This review ending up being more negative than I was originally intending, but the more I think about it, the less I like this movie.
