Great 2 LP's on 1 CD, April 15, 2006
This review is from: With Strings & Things/Hits of (Audio CD)
The label BGO released a series of 2Lp's on 1 CD back in 1999.
One of the singers they have dedicated most of their efforts to
is the great Bobby Vee. In the early sixties Bobby Vee was one
of the # 1 singers around. Not only did he have a string of
top 10 hits but also his first 10 LP's made it to the charts.
All these are now available under the BGO label with superb
remastered sounds all in full stereo. Here we have "With strings
and Things" and "Hits of the Rockin' 50's". Both are from 1961
and besides his own hits he also does covers of top 10 hits by
other famous teen-idols. The reason why I cannot give it 5
stars - the quality of these CD compilations deserve it - is
the fact that some of the covers sound too much like Buddy
Holly and he should have sung them with his own style. I know
he sounded like Buddy - he substituted him on the day the great
Buddy died - but sometimes he overdid it and in 1959 there were
certain rumours for some time that Buddy was still alive after
hearing Bobby Vee on the radio. Overall, though, it's a great
CD just like the rest of the other 2 LP's on 1 CD compilations.
