I love it. This cd is very different. Not just from Adam's other cd's but from anything else I've heard. I'm sure you have all heard "Strip". It still seems to get a lot of airplay on "80's" stations. It's a catchy song for sure. My favorite song on this cd is Navel to Neck. I usually listen to it twice in a row. 3.0 out of 5 stars Say It Girfriend Say It, Uh-huh!! (or Adam's uneven classic pop LP)
The Strip album was something of a mis-step for the overly sex-up Adam. It has a great formula in the classic pop mold though. Using Abba's studios and string sections on all of the songs seemd like a match made in perfect pop harmony. However some of the arrangements are a bit too ambitious (see "Spanish Games", "Amazon" and could-have-been-great "Libertine"). One thing...

He was really experimenting here and he was obviously feeling a bit "excited" (if you catch my drift) when he wrote most of these songs. Some sexy stuff on here. Some of the songs are just weird. And they took a few listenings to for me to start to like them. But I really like the lyrics and it is pretty clever song writing. The pictures that come with the cd make a girl VERY HAPPY indeed. Lets face it, most of us ladies (and some guys) started listening to him in the first place because we thought he was hot. But he also happens to be incredibly talented which really shows in this cd. Give it a try. The worst that can happen is you are stuck looking at a picture that shows Adam, literally, Navel to Neck. And what a navel it is. My, my.

5.0 out of 5 stars Naughty But Rather Nice...., October 21, 2005

I have always liked Adam and the Ants, and yes, even as a 19 year old I "got" what this album was all about. I like Adam Ant for the same reason I often like Prince, the cheeky bawdy lyrics done with panache...What can I say except Adam Ant brings out the kinkier aspects of my nature?

I have all his CD's but unlike most this one still gets decent play and yes, I do find the entire CD quite captivating.

When I was a teenaged girl, I was often taunted with the nickname "Goody Two Shoes" because I didn't drink, didn't smoke, and so when this one came out? Well, let's just say cranking on my headphones in the in the halls at school between had me smiling rather mysteriously and more than one guy overhearing it taking a second rather speculative look my way, particularly when I traded my jeans and t-shirts for a more "charming" look. (I still have my poet's shirt and pirate's boots, LOL...) Frankly I think "Libertine" came a lot closer to describing the person I was then but....

;)

Morrighan

PS: Yes, there's still a "whip in my valise" and some lucky guy has Adam Ant to thank for that!

After the big succeses of "Prince Charming" and "Friend Or Foe", "Strip" seems overproduced and uninspired. In fact, two of the best tracks "Strip" and "Puss'n Boots" are produced by Phil Collins (of Genesis) and Hugh Padgham (producer of The Police, Genesis and others). The only other songs that truly stand out are "Vanity" and "Playboy". The rest are a bit average. The remastering is great, and the album as a whole benefits from the overproduction and glossy feel because it's that which makes "Strip" just miss being a great work.

There are eight bonus tracks, most of them are uninteresting demo versions of album tracks, but there are three originals. "Dirty Harry" is amusing and beats the Gorillaz by 22 years! "Horse You Rode In On" isn't to bad either, and "She Wins Zulus" is also promising as a demo. Why there needs to be two different versions of the song "Strip" as bonus tracks seems like overkill to me.

As with the other remasters in this series the booklet comes with all the lyrics and the artwork and graphic design are great. All in all, this album just missed being great and ends up being slightly above average in the end for Adam Ant.

I was in my very early teens I think when this album came out, perhaps even younger. We lived in California but my Dad had a place in Colorado that he used to drag me to a couple times a year and I remember listening to this tape over and over on my walkman on the very long drive back and forth. There are very few albums that I like most every song on and this is one of them, even though only a couple of the songs ever made it to the radio, "Strip" was the biggest and "Puss N Boots" got some airtime. By the time tape decks went the way of the Dodo I had forgotten about this album and never got around to replacing it with a CD. But ever since the advent of MP3s I've occasionally looked for songs from this album albeit with little success. I've decided to go ahead and purchase the CD and rip the songs to mp3 since I never actually listen to CDs anymore.

I was surprised to see such negative reviews of this album from a few others, apparently there isn't much middle ground between loving and hating it. To be honest I was never a huge Adam Ant fan and I never owned any of his other albums so I can't say whether or not you'll like it if you own and like some of his other albums. Speaking for myself however, I really enjoyed it, enough that I'm going to buy it for a second time which is very rare.

I see where both of the other two reviewers are coming from. If you are a hardcore 'Dirk' and 'Wild Frontier'antperson, you may not care for how slick this release is but I will say that, underneath the overproduction, there are some great songs on this release. If you're looking to buy your first Adam Ant/and the Ants CD, I would highly recommend 'Kings of the Wild Frontier' or 'Antics in the Forbidden Zone (Best Of)'and keep going from there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not Meant to be Taken Seriously, August 18, 2006
This review is from: Strip (Audio CD)
I've always been an Adam Ant fan. He was such a beautiful boy. I was in my early twenty's when this album came out and I bought it right away. I think I love this album because I never took it seriously. I thought the "Strip" video was so funny and it showed Adam Ant having fun with the subject matter. The tunes are catchy and sometimes silly (yeah, cheesy). Navel to Neck is one that always gets me. Yeah, it's a bit lusty, cheesy, etc., but some of the songs make me smile and that's what counts.

3.0 out of 5 stars Say It Girfriend Say It, Uh-huh!! (or Adam's uneven classic pop LP), April 23, 2006
By
This review is from: Strip (Audio CD)
The Strip album was something of a mis-step for the overly sex-up Adam. It has a great formula in the classic pop mold though. Using Abba's studios and string sections on all of the songs seemd like a match made in perfect pop harmony. However some of the arrangements are a bit too ambitious (see "Spanish Games", "Amazon" and could-have-been-great "Libertine"). One thing is clear throughout the album though. Adam is a horny little boy and tells us so on the majority of the tracks. Which is fine really, except it's just such an uneven album that most people overlook that fact and claim his libido is a bit too much. The real problem is that as a follow-up to Friend Or Foe, Strip is just a few great songs shy of being a great album (whereas Friend Or Foe was filled to the brim with great songs and arrangements).

Having said that there are some great songs present. "Puss'n Boots" and "Strip" are classic singles and are well-produced by
Phil Collins (the rest of the album is produced abely by Richard James Burgess). "Montreal", "Playboy" and "Navel To Neck" are all great Ant songs. "Baby Let Me Scream At You" is funny and catchy.
"Vanity" may be about Vanity (whom he had dated after Prince did). The girl on the back cover is Karen Landau (Adam then-girlfriend). After the BBC banned the "Strip" single and video no further singles were issued from the album as a result.
I think it's fair to say that all in all half of this album is great and half of it is not quite as great.

The bonus tracks are all interesting versions of Strip songs.
"Kiss The Drummer" and "Yours, Yours, Yours" (the albums' two B-Sides culled from the singles) would have been nice if they were included after the initial album tracks but oh well.

"Mister Playboy sing your song and that horse you rode in on".

4.0 out of 5 stars Have you never heard of progress??, April 11, 2007
This review is from: Strip (Audio CD)
Ok I understand those that are totally loyal to original Ant music BUT I believe that Adam was trying to go in a different direction and kinda flow with the way music was progressing at that time in the 80's. In comparasson to some of the other tunes that were "popular" at that time I think this album was, if not inspired, at the very least innovative. I didn't hear it untill it had been out for a few years and got this cassette and my first car at the same time. I played it so many times that I had to repair the cassette about 4 times with some celo tape!! Maybe it's just fond memories of a very good time in my life that is jading my opinion but that's what good music is supposed to do. It should put us in a different place or time or frame of mind (it is after all entertainment!!) I say if you love it GREAT! If you don't love it...well that's ok too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Strip -- with Adam?? Sure!!, March 15, 2001
This review is from: Strip (Audio CD)
This is my all-time favorite Adam Ant CD. I have all of Adam Ant's CDs. The songs are fun and lively. I also like "Wonderful," which is just a bit more romantic. If you like Adam, you will definitely LOVE this CD. You've got nothing to lose and soooo much to enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot, Sexy Guy rolling around in the hay and the Music is a Match!, September 17, 2010
This review is from: Strip (MP3 Download)
In '84 a guy friend of mine left his favorite vinyl album at my house. Too bad I gave it back to him because he loved to look at the guy on the album as much as I did, I would like to still have it just to gaze at the sexy guy rolling around in the hay (who can't help but find that hot and sexy). I loved it!! "Strip" of course is my favorite, but almost every song grows on you. Adam Ant aka Stuart Leslie Goddard, is over looked as a talented recording artist, he had personal influences by the Beatles, being that his mother used to clean house for Paul McCartney. I guess your either gonna love it or hate it, but give it a chance before you say no. Every song has an erotic sensation to it, the words, the sexy english guy talking and singing. That may be why I always loved guys who looked like Adam Ant....And the pirate look that Adam Ant had first, may be why Johnny Depp is so hot when he plays in any Pirates of the Carribean...Whatever the case is I loved the music at 16 and now in my 40's I still think it's erotic and hot! Give the songs a try, I'm sure they will be your favorite too. Get the CD!!! Or download some songs. And make sure you gazed at the cover picture and the inside pictures while you listen to his songs if you get the cd, if not gaze at the sexy, hot picture they have here of him on the album.
