5.0 out of 5 stars O'Reilly agrees great stuff
I recently saw the author on O'Reilly Factor and was very impressed with what he had to say, so I bought the book. I too am a former dancer and was interested in the perspective of a man who worked "inside" (for more years than I could ever last.)
Couldn't put it down, the book is great fun to read. The author doesn't make himself out to be a hero, or all knowing,...

1.0 out of 5 stars An OK Read, not what I was expecting.....
Typical mob stuff and it all plays out like a Las Vegas CSI show. I danced at this club years ago and the owner was a pretty raunchy man. No class and of course was one of those managers who wanted favors from his girls. If you have lived in Vegas for a few years it's actually getting pretty old to hear about this on the news and now it's in writing to go down in history...

Couldn't put it down, the book is great fun to read. The author doesn't make himself out to be a hero, or all knowing, or even all good. What he does do, is take you for a ride through the club with his stories of events and his keen perceptions. You end up wanting to know more.
A must read for any man wanting to understand dancers and the strip club business.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sin City, April 10, 2005
This review is from: Stripped: Twenty Years of Secrets from Inside the Strip Club (Paperback)
It impressed me that the strip industry was the perfect anology for Las Vegas. All glitter and sparkle on the surface, hard-boiled and dark to the core. I always assumed that there was corruption, spiritual, political and of the flesh, but that it would always be tolerated as a natural by product of the American Dream and not talked about in polite company.

Evidently, this author is rude. This book exposes readers to the other side of the coin, the one not presented by the poker shows and Discovery channel travelogues. Racism, gratuitous violence, ugly sex and political corruption. Some claims seem so outrageous that one could normally assume that the author was embellishing his narrative for shock effect, pandering to the consumer's prurient nature for sake of sales. In the next sentence he is naming real people, politicians and local color such as the flamboyant club owner Galardi who are currently under federal indictment and in the news. Turns out his titillating work is not an adult rated fairy tale but a contemporary true crime novel, his observations from the pit.

If you are curious about what happens after A&E and The Discovery Channel stop the camera, this is a good book. A Las Vegas primer that the city elders won't be putting on their tourist web page.

Typical man book, written from his point of view. More about the crime part of the business than the actual dancing side. There are better books out there that are more about the actual dancing side of the business and not the crime drama.......

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible Read, February 25, 2008
This review is from: Stripped: Twenty Years of Secrets from Inside the Strip Club (Paperback)
I bought this book expecting something totally different. It was extemely boring and the author also had a problem with keeping his story straight. In one chapter he made it seem like almost everybody got beat up and you should tip your life away. Then in another chapter he totally says the complete opposite. The author had a tendency to make sure the reader knew he was hardcore. Please, give me a break.

I would not recommend this book even to my enemy.

5.0 out of 5 stars An eye opener, May 29, 2005

This review is from: Stripped: Twenty Years of Secrets from Inside the Strip Club (Paperback)
I found the author of this book to be very passionate about his experiences and feelings even showing a sensitive side towards the entertainers. He also was very curt, straight to the point and no sugar coating his words, participation and actions. Mr. Jordan just told his story even when it meant showing his role in the business, when at times it may not have been showing him in very good light. That added to my feelings that his story is real. This book took me thru a typical night, behind the scenes, in a strip club, via the eyes of someone who was there "hands on" minus the percieved glamour of it all. He even allowed an Entertainers point of view in one chapter which I thought was a nice extra to the book.

I highly recommend the book for those that have an interest on this subject. This book was written in the midst of trials and investigations going on not only in his city but with individuals portrayed in the book. I wish him much success and even more peace.

5.0 out of 5 stars Could it be true?, May 25, 2005
By
This review is from: Stripped: Twenty Years of Secrets from Inside the Strip Club (Paperback)
Its hard to find this book in Las Vegas right now. The author wrote a book that is not only true, but could make a great movie someday. (im sure hes already thought about that)Working in the same business and worked with him personally, I know every word is true and he does share a side with the reader that exposes a vegas most people dont know. The author makes it enjoyable and easy to read and get his point across. I also appreciated the fact that the author leaves you guessing if its a bunch of bull, or for those of us that sat in the vip room in the page 79 club, how funny and true the stories are. enjoy the book.

Read..Ivy Leauge stripper and Dance to Despair ( Memoirs of
an exotic dancer) by Rebeckka Sathen Black...these books were
excellent in comparison..Lap Dance was also very interesting...
take our word for it...we are exotic dancers and nobody knows
it better than us.....

1.0 out of 5 stars Not at all what I had hoped for, April 22, 2009

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Stripped: Twenty Years of Secrets from Inside the Strip Club (Paperback)
While this book does have the occassional insight/behind the scenes nugget, it's one of the worst books I've ever read.

First, the authour definitely has an axe to frind with his former employer, and it overshadows a lot of the book. If one wants to write a book about his former employer, then great, but don't pretend that this is a book about strip clubs.

Second, much of what the author says he puts forth as universally true for all strip clubs is flat out wrong. Behavior that he claims is "strictly prohibited" is in fact straight up allowed at other joints, and I don't mean illegal stuff that is allowed with a nod and wink.

Finally, the thing that kills this book most of all is that the author comes across as the blue-collar know it all who, were only he in charge, could fix all that ails the world. Reading this book made me feel like I was stuck on jury duty with someone who just wouldn't shut up.

This book's going straight to the trash bin.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Resource!, November 14, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Stripped: Twenty Years of Secrets from Inside the Strip Club (Paperback)
I picked it up for research purposes--I am a fiction author currently working on a book that happens to have a heroine who works in the strip club industry--and this book has proven to be the best resource I have used yet. The stories, anecdotes, and essays within "Stripped" have not only helped me to create a more realistic world for the characters in my current project, but have provided me with superb entertainment as well. The first night I started reading, I could not put the book down. Brent Kenton Jordan's writing is intelligent, humorous when appropriate, and at times even profound in a very real-world sense. He sugarcoats nothing, yet maintains a great level of respect for those he has shared the journey with.

Stripped was a great investment for my writer's library and has been a lifesaver for a professional writer trying to hammer out a story set in the adult industry when she herself has never held such a job.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dark and enlightening, December 2, 2007
This review is from: Stripped: Twenty Years of Secrets from Inside the Strip Club (Paperback)
This book was recommended to me by a Vegas native at the airport and am I glad she did. I read three books a week on average and I read so much crap it's not funny. This is a gem in an ocean of mediocrity. I am so glad the author picked up writing and expect him to be a great success. Don't worry Brent, with talent like this the money will come. Highly recommended.
