Made in China. Designed by genius.,

This review is from: Strobe 72-5300 Strobe Complete Wireless Security System (Tools & Home Improvement)
When I opened the box, the item seemed like a typical reasonable quality made-in-china.
However, the more I looked into this system, the more I appreciated the genius of the guy who designed it. At least for my purposes. Let's start with the features and I'll highlight the genius of the things: 1) There is a dedicated outdoor siren and it has a dedicated remote control. Sounds simple, but here is the genius of it: - the dedicated outdoor siren is very powerful. So powerful, it is painful to approach it inside enclosed space. - the outdoor siren has no built-in motion detectors/sensors etc. It can only be activated by radio! So you place the siren exactly where it needs to be: where a lot of people will hear it! You are not afraid that your neighbor returning late from work accidentally activates the motion detector or something. - the dedicated remote control for this siren features quite powerful radio. The outdoor siren has a good collapsible antenna. The siren located on the 2nd floor of my house is easily activated when I am deep down in the basement in the opposite part of the house. - the siren can operate when wired to your electricity (a standard 9V DC charger will do) - the siren can operate completely on battery power and battery life seems to be great - if you plug it both to the batteries and to the electric grid, then it uses the batteries only as a backup source if electricity fails. - the siren has two different battery compartments: the first is for one 9v battery which is the source of the 120db sound, the second is for 4 AA batteries used for radio receiver/strobe/timer and everything else. This is just brilliant! If you want to test the system in a "silent alarm mode" (that is everything except firing the loud siren just take 9v battery off. Everything other than the 120db siren will be activated and you'll see the light strobe as well. It will be a silent alarm. - the outdoor siren has separate low battery indicators for each of the battery compartments. - there is a panic remote control that activates the siren. If you are at home and bad people are breaking into your house - no need to "arm the system" and wait until they break your door, just hit the "panic" wherever you are - the siren will go off right away! - radio communication code is manually selected for the remote and the siren. If you buy two of these systems and place them next to each other, they won't interfere! Just select two different codes! 2) There is a dedicated indoor siren that is equipped with motion detector, light strobe and dedicated IR remote control. - the indoor motion detector activates both the indoor siren and the outdoor siren simultaneously! if the intruder is smart enough to locate and smash your indoor siren if it went off, the outdoor siren will still be going off full scale. - the indoor siren has its own independent remote control (infrared). It only arms and disarms the indoor unit. - the indoor siren has three modes: chime, armed, disarmed. Each is set by 1 click of the IR remote. - when arming/disarming the indoor unit the unit flashes back to you with the light strobe, just as your car does with its hazard lights. Very cool! - the indoor unit has similar 2 battery compartments: one is for one 9v and the other one is for four AA. It can also be powered by electric grid. 9 volt is used both for the siren and for the radio transmission. Without 9v battery the motion detector/arming/disarming/strobe still works fine, but neither the indoor siren nor the outdoor siren are activated. Once again two separate low battery indicators for each compartment. 3) There are two window breaking/door opening sensors. These sensors do not have a built-in siren. Instead they immediately activate the outdoor siren by radio. They are not armed/disarmed by the indoor motion detector remote (which is great again! why would I disarm a glass-breaking sensor when I am at home??). They are armed/disarmed by a brilliantly hidden switch on them. Each of these two sensors can be used as either a glass-breaking sensor, a door opening sensor or both simultaneously. Each unit operates on one 9v battery and has "High/Low" sensitivity switch. I found these units pretty useful too. So far I am very impressed. Not with the quality of the units - they are just good "made-in-china"s. I am impressed with the design of the system. One thing that I really miss about it is an option to get some parts of the system without buying the full system. I would love to get a couple more of panic radio remotes, one more IR remote and a couple more glass-breaking sensors, but unfortunately I couldn't find any place online that sells them separately.

After wrestling unsuccessfuly over another product we'd bought at a local store, we ordered this. Setup was very easy. The other product you have to synch and we couldn't get anything to work but this is very easy to get started. We didn't put the alarm outside yet, at a window facing our neighbor b/c she watches the place for us when we are not home and would notice the flashing strobe light and maybe even hear the alarm if she were outside. Does the job you would expect it to for the price. If you live on a good chunk of land, obviously nobody will hear it but it's loud enough inside to be uncomfortable and maybe scare off anyone that sets it off.

My boyfriend and I installed the Strobe 72-5300 after a recent burglary. Although we are still learning the "ins and outs" of alarming and disarming the system, we know we are more secure while away. We will continue to use this product to add to our home security.
