5.0 out of 5 stars DANG!!!! GERALD U DID IT THIS TIME
I'll be brief and straight to the point. Gerald did it this time. I didn't care too much for G-Spot. All the others before were aaaight! But this one OH MY GOODNESS, is definitely the bomb! From the INTRO to the OUTRO; Tracks 1-20, you will definitely feel "A Stroke Of Genius." Buy it! Also, as you know, these days record companies are encoding their product...

3.0 out of 5 stars A bit weaker than usual but still effective
Gerald Levert returns with another CD but this one isn't as strong as Gerald can normally deliver. His voice is great and he still does the convincing pillow talk, but like his last few releases, the material isn't there. Too often he turns to R. Kelly-styled strip-club music way beyond his reach as Gerald is the grown & sexy lover man not some man trapped in the closet...

Again you've gotta add this one to your collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars A GOOD STROKE!, November 5, 2003

After reading the other comments from various listeners, I'm wondering if they listened to the same CD that I heard! The CD was great; and G takes each CD that he does to another level. He played it safe by only having like 2 or 3 up-tempo cuts, and staying with the slower to moderate tempo style. "Close to you" with Tamia was beautiful, and I think Karen Carpenter would have liked the re-make. The various elements of Jazz that is also prevalent in the CD was wonderfully done. This CD will definately be in heavy rotation in my car.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gerald IS the man!, November 17, 2003

I'm not sure if the authors of the previous reviews listened to the same CD that I did. This CD is by far, one of his best! I hear alot in the reviews that he needs to stick with one style, but it's no sin to mix a little fast, up beat songs with his slower ballad type songs. I think some of you had better listen to this CD again and realize that this is one of his best recordings yet. (Look at the music charts.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable!!!, January 3, 2004
This review is from: Stroke of Genius (Audio CD)
I bought this CD for "You got that love", and forgot all about it by the time I got there!!! This is easily one of the best slow jam CDs I've heard in a very long time. "Good morning" is one of the most beautiful songs I've EVER heard!! Fellas, your lady will melt in your arms if you play this CD!!

This CD is a refreshing change for Gerald. I love his CD's(have every one ofthem), but this one is just a bit different atmosphere for him. More out of love and more into enjoyment is the feeling I get. He seems more at ease and satisfied with being Gerald Levert on this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gerald, (, December 27, 2003

What can I say about the latest masterpiece from Gerald Levert?...
It definitely stays true to it's title..."Stroke of Genius"!
I simply loved the cd, from the first single off the cd, "U Got That Kinda Love, (Call It A Night), Gerald let's us know in no uncertain terms, he's what we called some time ago, "whipped", by the love his significant other is puttin' down. It's all good too, from the verse, "Turn the blue light on in the basement kind of love", I know that brings back fond memories, of those basement SETS and "don't stop, get it, get it, kinda love", "That Call It A Nite, Kinda Love", he SAYS "he doesn't deserve it", but I bet there are a few women out there, who would disagree! I think you get the idea. Yeah, I believe the man is definitely WHIPPED!
Another cut on the cd, that is undeniably Gerald is "Awesome"!
It's a beautiful song, reminding us ladies of what we should know already, that we are truly "Awesome" beings! come on ladies, you got to know it beyond a shadow of a doubt!
The track, "Didn't We", well I heard Gerald sing this one in concert on December 5, 2003! You had to be there! nice steppin' music for sure, even though he gives props to Kelly's steppin' cut, I prefer, Gerald's. Another track I heard in concert, was "Wear It Out", well I will say, G...wore that one out in more ways than one. Again, you had to be there! ("AWESOME!!!")

But you know what cut, is somewhat a tell all? or is it?
The "To My Grave", cut, when Gerald exclaims, "it must be in the genes, papa was a rolling stone, and grand-daddy too! ooh G! are you tellin' too much? and should we take the song literally? (smile).

This album is another one of Gerald's keepers. I have been playing it non-stop. Gerald has a voice that stands out amongst many in the music industry, yet I don't feel he has gotten his just due, (grammy, american music award, etc.).
Now you know I need to be on the panel responsible for making those decisions and fans request more air play with the radio stations out there! All of the songs were co-written by Gerald. One song on the cd, features... Eddie Levert, of the O'Jays! (dad) and Sean Levert (brother), entitled..."Eyes and Ears", all I'm gonna say about that one is, if the song fits..
AND there's nothing wrong with your fam, having your back! and on this cut, it's evident THAT dad and brother got his.

...

I will say, that I prefer Gerald singing the gut wrenching ballads and songs about life, love and relationships, as opposed to the upper tempo stuff. It's just somethin' about him singing,
"Abc,123 and I Can't Help Myself"...and "How Many Times" from the "Groove On" cd. The man sings those cuts from the soul and you can feel it! It's just with those studio cuts, he's somewhat limited. That's why I suggest seeing G, in concert! He really take advantage of the freedom to let loose!

Gerald didn't disappoint me with his latest. Last but by no means least, if you haven't seen Gerald in concert, you are missing a POWERFUL, AWESOME, SPECTACULAR, REAL PERFORMANCE!
The Studio Mastered cd's don't do his voice justice! Hearing him perform LIVE, again, you experience Gerald un-cut and un-censored. He really cuts loose!

AND those of you, who haven't gotten the "Stroke of Genius" cd, and you're a true Gerald Levert Fan, your collection is definitely incomplete...I also must say that Gerald's cd is for the Mature Music Listener...and if you appreciate Soulful, Eroctic, Sensual, Mature Lyrical content, and you need something to set off one of those romantic evenings, this cd definitely is the one! and if you are a king and know it, but could stand for a little improvement in the romance department, well...take notes men! Because I guarantee your lady has! (smile).
I promise, coupled with this cd, and what you put down, the mood will definitely be set!

G...Whatcha' Doing For The "Rest Of Your Life"? By the way, "Rest of Your Life" is one of my favorite cuts on the cd! This one talks about, the love and complete feeling he feels for the love of his life, and when you find someone who has all and is all you're looking for...it's time to pop that question...."Whatcha Doin' for the "Rest of Your Life" because I want you in mine for the duration. Yeah, this one is my FAVORITE!

Peace.

5.0 out of 5 stars GERALD YOU DID IT!!, December 13, 2003
This review is from: Stroke of Genius (Audio CD)
This is my first Gerald Levert albulm and I love it. The lyrics are the beats are slamming. Not just a couple of the songs all of them. This is a CD that you can chill with at home or get in the car with the bass kicking and get your grove on. If you don't have this one you a missing a good one.

Knock, Knock, Knock,Eyes and Ears and Keep It Warm are all cool but it's sultry duet with Tamia on the Carpenters,They Long to Be) Close to You is what makes the CD work for me.

I am a Gerald LeVert fan for life. This is one of his best yet, from beginning to end. My favorites are #8 "U Got that Love" and #17 "Rest of your Life" Thank you Gerald for doing it again! I must say I wasn't feeling your last project, but you hit the "Jackpot" with "Stroke of Genius".
