Tracy Madison's A STROKE OF MAGIC takes off right where her first book A TASTE OF MAGIC ends. Alice Raymond is single and pregnant. When she finds out about her gypsy magic heritage she's not very happy at first but when she learns from her great-great-great grandmother's ghost that she has to use her magic to find her soulmate before her baby is born, then she is unhappy...

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Enchantment!, July 1, 2009
This review is from: A Stroke of Magic (Mass Market Paperback)
Tracy Madison's A STROKE OF MAGIC takes off right where her first book A TASTE OF MAGIC ends. Alice Raymond is single and pregnant. When she finds out about her gypsy magic heritage she's not very happy at first but when she learns from her great-great-great grandmother's ghost that she has to use her magic to find her soulmate before her baby is born, then she is unhappy and confused!

With a lot of returning characters from the first book (like Grandma Verda, Scott, and the rest of the family including Elizabeth), A Stroke of Magic is fun from the very first page and felt like visiting old friends. And Alice's hero is sexy and sweet and everything that heroes should be.

A Stroke of Magic is a fast-paced tale filled to the brim with laugh-out-loud moments, an intriguing storyline, zippy dialog, and a really unique take on magic. I devoured this book in one day!

A magical gift...

What's a girl to do when her sister gives her a gift of magic? On top of finding out her sleazy boyfriend is already married, Alice discovers she's pregnant. So Alice, a talented artist is now struggling to make a life for herself & her coming child. And then there's Grandma & Elizabeth, the members of her family with Gypsy magic. The rest of the family will delight the reader as well. Even a ghostly appearance from a relative long gone adds fun to the mix. And we can't forget Ethan, Alice's new boss who fills her head with wishes for more...

Wonderful characters and fun, fast paced story. What a great series!

Keep in mind that this is a fun romantic fluff read. 4.5* of 5*

5.0 out of 5 stars charming whimsical urban fantasy, July 1, 2009
This review is from: A Stroke of Magic (Mass Market Paperback)
In Chicago, Enchanted Expressions graphic designer Alice Raymond has a slight problem. It is not being single and pregnant as she kicked her cheating ex to the curb. It is not the fact that her hormones are geometrically out of control due partly to the fetus inside her and to a degree due to her crush on her boss, Ethan Gallagher. Finally it is not the fact that she can see her late great-grandmother and have her wishes come true. Her dilemma is the Gypsy's curse that proclaims for her now unborn daughter to live a happy life; Alice must find her soul mate before the infant is born.

Her libido insists it is Gallagher, but Alice no longer trusts that part of her body. Ethan was engaged to his forever significant other who ended their relationship after a fortuneteller told her he was not her numero uno. He vowed never again will he allow a "paranormal" con artist to intrude in his life. However, now he believes he has found his significant other in Alice, but she rants like she visited "Wonderland" about dead relatives and gypsy curses. Though he fears she is a certifiable fruitcake, he loves Alice, but even he is unsure whether he can stand by her when she keeps sprouting about her unborn being cursed.

Fans will enjoy this delightful paranormal romance filled with two wonderful lead characters and a strong support cast. Alice is a believer but Ethan is a doubter, which makes for a fun relationship for readers but not for them. Anyone who enjoys A TASTE OF MAGIC will appreciate this lighthearted frolic as once again, Tracy Madison provides a charming whimsical urban fantasy.

I will admit that I enjoyed the first novel in this series and was curious enough about Alice to read the second. The premise of the series draws the reader in ... paranormal romance is a novelty. What turned me off with this second novel were the repetitious cliches ("no dice") and the wordy commentary on Alice's mental state at the end of every chapter. Less would have been more. Also, the lust scenes seemed repetitious and silly by the end of the second book, and I have decided not to read the third or fourth books. If you are looking for a sophisticated paranormal romance series, Karen Nilson's Landers Saga is AWESOME. Her writing is so artistic and clever ... no repetition or cliche, plus a very compelling plot.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this series!, January 14, 2011

This is the second book in the series. In every book, the magic is passed on to another family member. This is great because you really get to know all the characters this way. I just bought the 3rd book and can't wait to get started.

I actually downloaded this to try out on the Kindle. I had no idea I wasn't going to be able to put it down! The book was awesome. Just the right amount of romance and mystery to make it where I didn't want it to end! I then realized there is a whole series to this, and already I had read two of them in a matter of 4 days!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Stroke of Magic, March 24, 2010
This review is from: A Stroke of Magic (Mass Market Paperback)
Having read the first book in this series, I knew I was going be treated to a fun, delicious read. That's definitely what I got with Alice's story. A Stroke of Magic is a wonderful mixture of romance and drama, full of twists and turns. I love the gypsy magic factor that the family has in this series, it's a fresh, unique spin. Madison is a pure delight to read. With the lure of magic and the message to always follow your heart, it's not hard to be captivated by this world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun and Magical Romance!, December 15, 2009
This review is from: A Stroke of Magic (Mass Market Paperback)
The sequel to A Stroke of Magic, A Taste of Magic begins picks up right after the first book ends. The main character, Alice, is pregnant and still searching for her soul mate. Alice quickly discovers, thanks to a long-dead relative, that she must find her soul mate before the baby is born.

As hilarious as the first book, A Stroke of Magic has not only laughs, but steamy romance and lovable characters. It's the perfect book for cozying up to the fire during a cold Chicago winter night!

1.0 out of 5 stars A whiny heroine and annoying side characters, February 18, 2011
This review is from: A Stroke of Magic (Kindle Edition)
I was quite satisfied with the first volume of this series (A Taste of Magic) and therefore tried the second, by which I was severly disappointed. The heroine is filled with self-pity and sees herself mostly as the poor victim of circumstances. She lets herself be pushed around by her grandmother, who just goes ahead and does what she considers right without any regard for other peoples feelings or privacy. The way this bunch of women (Alice and her friends/relatives) treats men during the search for Alice's soul-mate is disgusting. And that none of these four supposedly brilliant women realizes the solution of Alice's dilemma before the very last pages is unbelievable. The book has many reptitive scenes (Alice crying, her ancestor showing up with mysterious clues, Alice lusting after Ethan) which get rather tedious pretty soon. I am sorry that I read that book because I was so annoyed with its characters that it put me in a really bad mood.
