Well written. Characters were a bit highly wiggly, but so we're a lot of people in that time. Enjoyed the faith and prayers--for once not overdone. The end was cute and provided a wonderful
Solution for the gentlemen left without a bride. Good use of the reality of those times. Will read this author again. /Stephanie

I have not enjoyed a series more than this one in quite awhile. I love the strong women and equally strong men. The plot was well-defined, with a twist at the end. Read all 3 books to get the most from the story. You will laugh and sometimes cry -definitely worth it!

follow up reading of the women from the first book. Some with more common sense than others, still follow their self proclaimed rules and city ways, while trying to tame the wild of country living.Somehow their hearts get in the way of their stubborness and chaos reigns at the turn of every page. Oh to have lived back then!

Good book will hold interest all the way to the end.
I would recommend it to anyone who appreciates a good story without all the trash that some authors use.

I really love the whole series, this particular book was a bit more emotional than the others but still wonderfully written. I am a huge fan of her books; the stories draw you in although the endings tend to be very abrupt. I would love some more detailed endings I always end a book with more questions than answers.

This story line shows how our emotions cripple us in small ways and keeps us from seeing the obvious. We hope against hope that what we know with our heart to be true just is going to be different this time. This Sister relationship had no foundation
To build on but the unloving & deceptive premise of the Mother & Sister. The time frame of the story shows the unworthiness
Of women or worthiness, depending on works and doing life; and not on the Grace & Mercy of God. Very good read!

Strong and Stubborn is the third book in the Husbands for Hire series written by Kelly Hake. The first two books in the series are titled Rugged and Relentless and Tall, Dark, and Determined, respectively. All of the characters present in the first two books make a return appearance in this third book, with a few additions. The story takes place in the small town of Hope Falls in the Colorado Territory in 1887. The owners of a mining operation are trying to begin a sawmill business.
Naomi Higgins has a secret. The only other person who knows it is her sister with whom she has not seen in five years. Her sister, Charlotte, lured Naomi's beau away from her five years ago and married him. Naomi is sent to take care of her younger cousin, Lacey, as she can't attract a husband and is "on the shelf". Naomi loves to build, decorate, and create dollhouses that are miniatures of real houses. When she needs an escape, she goes to her workshop. Now that the other three female owners of the sawmill have become engaged per their agreement, it is Naomi's turn to fulfill her part of the bargain to find a husband. There are several men among the lumberjacks who vie for her attention, but none spark her interest. Will God send her the right man to marry? She feels unworthy of any man due to her guilt and shame. Will she ever be able to live with her "secret"? Can she truly find God's forgiveness and believe in it? She lives in fear that someone will find out about her secret when her sister unexpectedly shows up in Hope Falls with her husband, the former love of Naomi's life. What will everyone think of her?
Mike Strode has a secret as well. He arrives in Hope Falls looking for a fresh start. He is a carpenter and wants to set up shop in Hope Falls.
