This is one of those things I didn't think I'd use much, but am glad I bought. As a private pilot, I was initially interested in it because it makes weighing bags for doing weight and balance calculations easier. Then, packing SCUBA gear for a trip to Belize, I wanted to make sure I was within the airline's 50lb baggage weight limit. It works well, has a large, clear LCD readout, stores somewhat compactly due to the folding handle, and holds the display so you can see how much your bag weighs *after* you put it down. Here's the process (for weighing in pounds): 1) Affix the strap to your bag's handle using the web strap with the Fastex buckle, 2) turn it on with the power button, then press the units button to switch from Kg to Lb, 3) lift up using the steel handle and wait for the beep that tells you the bag's weight is locked on the display. Press Reset to start over. Works for me!

I purchased this in May and upon the second use, it would not turn on. Thinking it might just be the inexpensive batteries, I figured I would repace and it would be fine.

The spring that holds the connection on one battery had broken off and once I moved the battery that was in the scale, it was all over.

I tried to contact Amazon customer service, but had a very difficult time communicating with the foreign broken English.

Giving up, I contacting the manufacturer and it proved to be better and it is under warrenty. But you have to include a check for $7.00 to have it returned, plus the postage going out.

It's better to just toss and never buy from this manufacturer again.

Broken upon arrival. On first use some of the digits were not working. Cheaply made, poor quality control. Here's the real kicker, the company wants me to ship them the broken one and include a check for $7 so they can send me a replacement! Don't support companies like this.

The scale saved a bit of consternation for my husband. Husband traveling back East for an extended work stay. He needed to take with him quite a bit for his one month stay. He used the scale to make sure he wasn't over the 50 lb limit. The scale read 48 lbs and when he went to the airport & checked in backage the airport scale also stated 48 lbs. This is a great gadget for the price.

Either the scales at the airports (various international ones, including the US) are wrong, or the Balanzza is.

* I weighed my carry-on several times with the Balanzza. One reading said: 12.4 lb. Next reading said 14.1, and a third said 13.6. Airport reading was 14.6. Fortunately, I had space in my checked luggage to shift something over.
* On a flight within Europe, the maximum weight for a checked luggage is 20 kg (44 lb). The Balanzza Digital Luggage Scale read 20.1 kg before I left for the airport. At the airport, my luggage weighed 24.5 kg, and I paid 48 euros (12 euros/kg) for the extra.
* I weighed another piece of luggage that a friend of mine was carrying. His maximum was 30 kg for business class. We weighed the luggage several times. It averaged 28.2 kg on 5 attempts. Airport weight: 29 kg.

Bottom line: not accurate enough.

Great travel gadget... with today's weight limits on planes this tool was great to have in my christmas vacation overseas. It is accurate and easy to use... perhaps a little bit bigger and heavier than expected, however nothing serious... As soon as my dad saw it wanted one for him too!

The item was not abused and just stopped working within a month. I would not buy this brand.

I never paid much attention to baggage weight under the old 70 pound (32kg) limits. However, when the limits were lowered to 50 lbs/23 kgs in 2005, I found that sometimes my bags were a few pounds overweight. One solution has been to pay more attention to the empty weight of a piece of luggage before purchasing it, something I never considered before. The second solution is to weigh your bags accurately before leaving for the airport, and that's where this useful device comes in handy.

Weighing bags in the past was awkward, as one had to lift the bag and stand on a bathroom scale, then weigh oneself again empty-handed and subtract the difference. Not very easy to see the dial with a large duffel bag in one's hands!! Another limitation affected persons of size (say, over 250 lbs) whose combined weight---personal plus baggage---might exceed the capacity of the bathroom scale in use. Even a 100 kg/220 lb man might exceed a scale's capacity if trying to weigh a 70 lb (32 kg) bag, which is still allowed in Business and First Class.

In addition, while bathroom scales were adequate for home use, most people preparing to fly home could not avail themselves of a scale unless they were staying in a private home. Portable mechanical baggage scales were not much better; they still required a second person to glance at the dial as the bag was lifted off the ground.

This device weighs in kilos or pounds. You attach its strap to the baggage handle, lift the bag off the ground, and the scale beeps when it has recorded the weight. Best of all, the weight remains displayed on the scale screen until you clear it, so you can check the result, without a helper, after you've placed the bag back on the floor. I have found the scale to weigh within 0.2 kgs (0.4 lbs) of most airport scales, and have never been penalized at the airport for any bag that met the limits using this scale while packing. The original pair of AAA batteries are still in use 18 months after purchase. On several occasions, I was able to make last minute adjustments by moving items from one bag to another to bring both bags down below 50 lbs/23 kgs, including one such strategic transfer on a train platform in the Frankfurt Airport.

While most US airlines do not weigh cabin bags, as long as one meets dimension limits, the same is not true overseas. Many European airlines restrict the weight, as well as size, of cabin bags. If your itinerary includes connections involving more than one carrier, your checked bags--which usually are checked through to your final destination--need only meet the regulations of the carrier operating the first flight segment. But your cabin bags must meet the regulations of ALL of the carriers involved. This may mean being barred from bringing your cabin bag on board the second or third flight segment of a journey, even though the first carrier had no issues with your bag's weight. By checking the websites of all of your airlines, and using an accurate scale, you can avoid high surcharges.

I was so delighted with the scale's performance that I bought two additional ones for relatives and friends in Europe who fly frequently in Europe on an assortment of airlines. They need to stay current of the rules on the airline websites, but the scale allows them to stay within the allowed limits.

The scale does not work at all.
1-) Resets improperly, you have to do it several times.
2-) When you get the reset, the bipppp that sounds telling you that the measure is ok, works 1 time of 5.
3-) You get tire waiting, hanging the luggage.
4-) Definitively I DO NOT RECOMEND THE PRODUCT.
5-) The seller is excelent, congratulations but the product is a calamity.

A friend of mine uses this scale and recommended it to me. It is super easy to use and very accurate. The weight has been spot on with airport scales all over the U.S. No more overweight charges or embarrassing moments moving stuff from one bag to another. Well worth the investment!
