Jasper is a man of very few words, preferring his actions, strength, and unparalleled skills to do the talking for him. From the start my heart was crushed for him. His history was devastating, giving ample reason for his closed-off nature. My feelings for him were much like Muse’s; I’d find myself simultaneously frustrated by his inability to allow himself to connect and dizzy with the physical power he commanded. As M. Leighton exposed this character to us over the course of the story, the growth we see in him and the changes in his demeanor were stunning. As a character, Muse was limited by her knowledge of the things happening in her life. So as she began to learn the truth, she transformed into a pillar of strength, loyalty, and ferocity that I absolutely adored.Read more ›
Muse has a close relationship with her father and when he doesn’t contact her at their scheduled time, she decides to hire someone to track him down. When she meets Jasper, I could see they had an instant attraction to one another and she insists on going with him to find her father. Soon they are road tripping across the country, and the sexual chemistry between them continues to rise!
I really liked Muse; she is definitely an artsy type of person with a kind heart and is loyal to those she trusts. She let Jasper into her heart quickly and it was amusing to see her try and break down his walls. She has been pretty sheltered by her father growing up, so she learnt so much, not only about him but herself that she never would have expected.
I had tears in my eyes just from reading the Prologue. Knowing what Jasper faced as a child broke my heart. I knew that he would grow into a tough guy and would hide his emotions, but I didn’t expect him to go to the extent that he did. There haven’t been many people that he’s cared about, and he has put as much distance as he can between them so they are never harmed. He struggles with Muse because she is making him feel things he thought he never could. He is definitely the tall dark and broody type, but he is also very observant, always watching and taking in everything around him.Read more ›
Jasper King had encased himself in an impenetrable fortress of self-loathing and abhorrence. Life consisted of mission after mission. Self-imposed isolation was considered his well-deserved normal. Until he met Muse Harper, an assignment that would irrevocably alter his axis.
Muse Harper was a woman living in enforced exile. With a father in the military, she was strong, resilient, and independent. But she was also lonely. Hiring provocative and sexy-as-sin Jasper King to find someone dear to her changed her life in ways she never thought possible. Eyes open, heart broken, hers was a journey of discovery. And some truths proved more difficult than others to endure.
Alternating POVs, Strong Enough was a cleverly constructed, intensely heart moving and captivating tale. When Jasper and Muse's lives intersect, the attraction was instant and Leighton knows well how to build delicious sensual heat and tension. Believable, appealing characters, twisty plot points, scintillating sex scenes, and heart-wrenching self-discovery, are what makes up this stunning book. I was engrossed from start to finish and instantly went back to the beginning to read it again.
Introducing readers to a black ops team with a difference, each Hero seems vastly different to the other, and Leighton's genius was in the tantalising tease offering minute but pertinent insight ensuring we'll be back for more. And I know I will be. Tough Enough already has my greedy reader eyes wanting.
You won't be disappointed in Strong Enough. Leighton is an incredible storyteller, writes with exquisite detail and relevance, and knows how to amp up the heat and sizzle between her characters, creating an alluring and compelling read.
