Book Description

All parents want their children to be healthy, fit, and more active, but there is a pervasive myth that keeps many kids from reaching their full potential. A popular misconception is that young athletes shouldn’t engage in strength training because it is harmful. However, current research, including a recent study from the Mayo Clinic, indicates that nothing could be further from the truth. Strength training is the single most effective exercise method for reversing adolescent obesity and can dramatically alter and improve a child's body composition.

With his blockbuster book The Slow Burn™ Fitness Revolution , renowned personal trainer Fredrick Hahn revealed the secret to strengthening muscles, enhancing flexibility, burning fat and improving performance in just 30 minutes a week. Now, in Strong Kids, Healthy Kids, he shows parents, caregivers, teachers, and doctors how his fitness program can change the lives of children and teens everywhere, no matter what their athletic ability. Whether a child is inactive or a competitive athlete looking to take his performance to the next level, he can become much stronger and fitter. As the founder of the Mighty Tykes and Teens™ program, Hahn is an expert on child fitness. Here, he shows kids how to:

get strong fast • increase bone density and resistance to injury • improve cardiovascular health • enhance flexibility • increase their metabolism and reduce body fat

With this proven program, all children can build their self-esteem, improve their performance, and lead healthier lives.

From the Inside Flap

As a parent, you naturally want your child to be as healthy and as fit as he or she can be. You may worry that your child seems to out of breath after gym class, or that he or she is much too skinny to even engage in serious exercise. Even if your child is a star athlete, you want to make sure that he or she becomes stronger and faster to perform at his or her very best. But just which exercises will yield the most benefits? Most important, which activities are actually safe for your children? A popular misconception is that young athletes shouldn’t engage in strength training because it can stunt their growth or even cause injury. Nothing could be further from the truth. Current research indicates that strength training is the single most effective exercise method for improving strength and fitness, and can dramatically alter and improve a child’s body composition. Whether your child is a competitive athlete or is just trying to get leaner, the truth is that he or she can get stronger and healthier no matter what his or her fitness level.

With his blockbuster book The Slow Burn™ Fitness Revolution, renowned personal trainer Fredrick Hahn revealed the secret to strengthening muscles, enhancing flexibility, burning fat, and improving performance in just 30 minutes a week. Now, in Strong Kids, Healthy Kids, he shows you how his fitness program can change the life of any child, no matter what his or her athletic ability is. As the founder of the Mighty Tykes and Teens™ program, Hahn is an expert on youth fitness. He has spent the last ten years developing safe and effective exercises for kids as young as seven years old. Here, he shatters the myths that have impeded kids from becoming their fittest, healthiest selves. Hahn offers an efficient time-saving exercise program along with a low-carb diet plan that will help your kids:

·       Get strong fast.

·       Increase bone density and resistance to injury.

·       Improve cardiovascular health.

·       Enhance flexibility.

·       Increase their metabolism and reduce body fat.

Young athletes will find that the program helps them improve in their sports by safely and quickly building muscles, and less athletic children will find this program helps them become healthy and fit without becoming jocks. Complete with kid-friendly recipes and photographs that show your kids how to exercise the right way, this book will help all kids build self-esteem, improve performance, and lead healthier lives.

Fred has done an extraordinary thing in this book. He has forever destroyed the myth that strength training for kids is dangerous and unproductive. Using the scientific literature, Fred shows how strength training can benefit children by making them stronger, and how it is the best way to favorably alter body composition in kids. The middle section teaches how to perform proper strength training in any setting available such as home, school or the gym. Finally, Fred attacks the myth of the contemporary food pyramid by providing a healthy food plan (not a diet) that provides the healthiest food choices that kids will love. This book is a must read for any parent and should be the manual for every physical education class in this country. Bravo Fred!

Everybody at some point or another gets on a fitness kick and tries to incorporate exercise into their family life for the sake of their health. It's a noble task that oftentimes ends in quick failure because you didn't have a clear-cut plan of action to make this new discipline become a permanent part of your regular routine.

Fitness expert Fred Hahn understands this and wanted to equip parents and children alike with exercise that will be efficient, effective, and effortless compared to any activity you've ever done before to improve your strength and health. The playful language that Hahn uses definitely reveals he's a daddy who knows how to talk to his child. And that "voice" comes through loud and clear throughout the book.

This book could easily have been called "Slow Burn For Kids" because many of the principles are taken directly from Hahn's bestselling Slow Burn Fitness Revolution book co-written with Drs. Mike and Mary Dan Eades. Combine "slow burn" fitness with a healthy low-carbohydrate nutritional approach and you have a perfect way to make your kids stronger and healthier than you ever thought possible!

First lady Michelle Obama has made childhood obesity her signature project with the "Let's Move" campaign. One-third of American children are either overweight or obese, and with black and Hispanic children, the figure increases to one-half. Weight-related health issues are also on the rise, and Mrs. Obama hopes that if children can develop a healthy lifestyle when they're young, they can avoid these problems both now and as adults.

"Strong Kids, Healthy Kids: The Revolutionary Program for Increasing Your Child's Fitness in 30 Minutes a Week", by Frederick Hahn, is a very timely addition to the materials available on the subject of childhood obesity. Mr. Hahn presents guidelines for increasing your child's fitness in 30 minutes a week. This fitness progam includes a strength training plan for children. A popular misconception is that children shouldn't engage in strength training because it can stunt their growth or even cause injury. Mr. Hahn states that current research indicates that strength training is the single most effective exercise method for improving strength and fitness in children.

This book gives detailed information about developing a slow speed strength training program for your child. It provides guidelines that must be followed to make the program effective and safe. The progam can be used at home with inexpensive weights or in a gym with professional weights.

The last chapter of the book is "The Strong Kids, Healthy Kids Eating Plan". This is an excellent guide for healthy eating that can benefit people of all ages. It is not about counting calories but about eating the right kinds of foods to promote healthy growth. The author states that 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated...
