I highly recommend this book if you like suspense, paranormal and some romance. In addition to this author being very skilled in creating an intriguing page turner, I felt my eyes tearing three quarters of the way through this incredibly good book.

The story opens with the main character, Jessica talking on her cell to her friend Tess, about her upcoming sixteenth birthday bash. After hanging up, Jessica makes her way down the spiral staircase in her massive 10,000 square foot home, to the kitchen for something to eat. While in the kitchen, she is introduced to “Kamali” whom her Mother hired to tend to her greenhouse. After being extremely rude to the housekeeper, Kamali tells her she is “evil” just before leaving with Ursula, the housekeeper. We learn early on that Jessica’s parents are rarely home and when they are home late in the evening, her father is usually yelling at her mother for being drunk.

Right from the start, Jessica behaves like a spoiled rich brat, judging and looking down on pretty much everyone. Jessica seems to live in a world most people could only dream about. She has stunning good looks, lives in a mansion, has her own horse, is expecting BMW convertible for her birthday, yet when she is at home, the mansion is devoid of any family.

As Jessica’s birthday party gets closer, so does the paranormal activity.

This is a very skilled writer that is able to elicit all sorts of emotions from the reader; tears, anticipation, anger, pounding heart beat ….

At the risk of spoiler alerts, this is one book that can keep you thinking about it, long after you finish it.

This was a very good paranormal teen novel that was fun to read and had an overall moral to the story.

This book is about Jessica. Jessica seems to be a stuck up, spoiled, bratty teen who is living a life that to all outsiders would look like a dream life... but looks can be deceiving...

Jessica's story takes many twists and turns that I didn't expect as I came to know and like Jess more and more as the book progressed.

I would recommend this book to all young adults and teens... It had suspense, romance, paranormal, some mystery and overall I believe it leaves you with a good feeling and an overall message to be good to each other.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I read it cover to cover in one sitting. It has scandal, intrigue, the supernatural and love, all of my favorite things in one excellently written story. Ms. Veil did an outstanding job with her character depiction, I related to all of them and could easily picture them in my mind. Jessica was an outrageously mean and self entitled beotch that soon learned that you get back what you give out and the author did an marvelous job of portraying this moral. I would highly recommend this book to anyone as it was an engrossing, great read. Good Work Laurel! Can’t wait for the next one!

When I first saw the description, I was not 100% sure about this book. However I decided to give it a try anyway.

To my surprise the story was quite fascinating and brilliantly written. The main character Jessica carried the story very well and the surprises that she uncovers make the story that much better. I don't want to ruin it for anyone but the ending is great!

I would recommend this story for those that can appreciate well written fiction that has to do with the paranormal.

It will keep you at the edge of your seat and you'll be begging for more!

Although I am well past the Teen & Young Adult age, I feel quite confident that there is plenty in "Strong Like Me" by Laurel Veil to appeal to the (much) younger crowd: intrigue, mystery, romance - and the promised fantasy / paranormal happenings.

Veil has a nicely flowing writing style that brings life to her characters and the story line. Jessica, the main character, is extremely well written and very likable. With all of the plots unexpected twists and turns, I found myself reading the entire book in one sitting.

Great job Laurel!

Rich and spoiled kid Jessica thinks she has everything she wants: friends to drive her around, make her popular, come to her party, new cars, etc. First thing that happens in the book is we see her world kinda crumbling a bit. The one person who might have really been her friend ditched her because Jess was using her, and that's when she realizes that everyone else who talks to her and pretends to like her are only doing that because she's popular and has a rich dad who can get them good deals on cars. So... a lot of the beginning is expressing solid morals that Jess begins to learn. I think that's a pretty cool thing to incorporate for a book in the paranormal genre, instead of same old same old "Good character has bad encounters".

The paranormal part, like I said, wasn't so big at first. There were some small things disappearing and reappearing in strange places, a few goosebump-worthy scenes, but nothing too major to give a lot away. Then the reader starts getting into some reallllly creepy stuff o.o So when you read the beginning, don't be thrown off by the lack of paranormal activity. It gets pretty awesome! I think it's actually a unique start to the book, as it kept me anxious to find out what was going on...

All in all, it's an amazing book and I really enjoyed it. I think it'll be a fun read for younger readers who can relate to the feisty main character, instead of people who have already gone through the younger "stupid" faze :) Hoping to read more by this author!
