5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful book and resource!
I just finished reading "The Strong, Sensitive Boy" and feel like I have blueprint how to raise my son. I live in the U.S. and was struck how Dr. Zeff's research indicated that it was so much easier for sensitive boys who grew up in other cultures. However, I now know how to make sure my son doesn't suffer. I'm going to follow the suggestions about making sure my son...

2.0 out of 5 stars Sometimes misses the mark
I was looking forward to reading this book as I have a sensitive 9-year old boy. However, I think Dr. Zeff gets sensitivity confused with introversion, and a few times in the book he uses the term introvert in a derogatory manner. However, in the wonderful book, "The Hidden Gifts of the Introverted Child," By Marti Olsen Laney, PsyD, there is a wonderful explanation of...

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful book and resource!, May 23, 2010
This review is from: The Strong, Sensitive Boy (Paperback)
I just finished reading "The Strong, Sensitive Boy" and feel like I have blueprint how to raise my son. I live in the U.S. and was struck how Dr. Zeff's research indicated that it was so much easier for sensitive boys who grew up in other cultures. However, I now know how to make sure my son doesn't suffer. I'm going to follow the suggestions about making sure my son feels comfortable in school and not shamed by teachers or bullies, and if public school doesn't work I will look for alternative schools or home school him myself. I learned that it's important for my son to learn how to interact with non-highly sensitive children, but in a way that works for him. There's so much valuable information for both my husband and me how to raise my son's self-esteem from from encouraging him in the sports that he is drawn to, to helping him accept his physical and emotional attributes to encouraging his spiritual side . The stories from the sensitive men thatDr. Zeff interviewed were amazing and really helped me understand what my son needs. I highly recommend this book for parents and I think the book would also help sensitive men heal their childhoods.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read for Parents & Teachers, February 20, 2011
This review is from: The Strong, Sensitive Boy (Paperback)
I've seen all too frequently how the less aggressive boys get teased in my classroom and on the playground ending up lowering their self-esteem and confidence. Also, I witnessed how my sensitive teenage nephew was traumatized by the bullying he experienced a few years ago in middle school. The book covers the topic of bullying, which has been devastating for so many children, and how to successfully address this horrific problem for students, parents and teachers.

Dr. Zeff's chapter on the the sensitive boy in school has helped me a create classroom environment that works for all my children, not just the assertive ones. I also found the chapter on raising the sensitive boy's self-esteem full of wonderful suggestions that I'm incorporating into my daily teaching techniques.

The book is well written with many interesting stories and has been well researched. "The Strong, Sensitive Boy" is not only an indispensable resource for parents and relatives of sensitive boys, but for any professional working with children since 20% of all children have the trait of high sensitivity.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book contains invaluable advice for raising boys, July 13, 2011
This review is from: The Strong, Sensitive Boy (Paperback)
I am the dad of a sensitive boy and am so glad that I read Dr. Zeff's book. Although my son is only four years old I can see referring to this book during each stage of his life. I was raised in a typical aggressive boy culture where any boy who showed emotions was humiliated and I don't want my son to go through the emotional pain that I experienced. I particularly liked the chapter about dads raising sensitive boys and the need for men to question their own beliefs about what it means to be a man and look for new definitions of masculinity. Dr. Zeff has many pertinent suggestions of how to encourage and praise your son's sensitivity as well as how to help him make friends with other children who will respect his sensitivity. I strongly recommend reading this wonderful resource for raising your son.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great insight for how to love a sensitive boy!, April 10, 2011

This review is from: The Strong, Sensitive Boy (Paperback)
This is a fantastic book that provided invaluable tips for how to care for a sensitive child. It helped me to have a vision for what my son's life might look like, and as a result it was all very positive. The sensitive child has the potential for a challenging time throughout the school years and at home with parents who do not understand them. The author attempts to mitigate the challenges by providing insight and possible solutions. I loaned it to another friend of a sensitive boy and she, too, found it incredibly helpful. It will be my go-to handbook on my 4 year old son in the upcoming years. I am so thankful I read it!

This book is a must have for parents and caregivers of highly sensitive boys. I have the complete series of books by Elaine Aron as well and highly recommend them! I want to order more copies to give to my whole family to read so that we can form a supportive environment for my son. It is so very important. This is a tool I will use for his whole life!

This book is a good addition to the literature on highly sensitive persons. Dr. Zeff writes with great insight and compassion about sensitive boys and men who often find it difficult to understand and cope with a non-sensitive world. Parents of sensitive boys will find this to be an outstanding resource to help them to understand and appreciate your sensitive child. Highly recommended to parents and interested readers wishing to gain insight into highly sensitive persons.

5.0 out of 5 stars I highly recommend this book!, December 6, 2011
This review is from: The Strong, Sensitive Boy (Paperback)
Thank you Dr. Zeff for writing such an important book that can help society to raise boys who are both strong and in touch with their emotional selves at the same time. These young boys will grow into men who are good partners and fathers, and can model staying in balance between the masculine and feminine energies. Much needed advice for this day and age!

5.0 out of 5 stars covers everything from A-Z, August 15, 2011

I can't say enough good things about this book. I have a young school aged boy who has always been sensitive. No child falls into an exact category, but my guess is that if you are seeking out a book like this than you will find your son somewhere in these pages. From their relationships with their fathers, brothers and peers...to their (often, but not always) anxieties with sports and competition...and how to help the boy that doesn't have a mean bone in his body to survive the tough teenage years. Read this book, and then pass it around to your son's support team, because this summarizes all that those who know and care for your child will need to know about giving him the support he will need...so if your son is sensitive I would highly recommend this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars All Parents of Boys Should Read this Fantastic Book!, June 30, 2011
This review is from: The Strong, Sensitive Boy (Paperback)
I'm a mom of 2 boys and Dr. Zeff's wonderful book has helped my husband and myself so much. My husband had tended to be strict with our younger son which would upset him a great deal. My husband and I followed Dr. Zeff's wise advice that sensitive boys need gentle discipline, and life is now a lot more peaceful at home. My older son had been having problems adjusting to all the stimulation in his classroom this past year and his grades had plummeted. We met with his teacher and followed Dr. Zeff's 12-point plan under tips for teachers. His teacher was receptive to the trait of sensitivity in boys and she consequently made several important changes in the classroom, with favorable results. I only wish every parent would read and implement the advice in this excellent book, which could result in a new generation of strong and compassionate men.
